John, have you considered setting up a bug tracker (like bugzilla or trac)? I think it may be beneficial to track bugs, assign them, and comment on them. Then again it is one more thing for you to administer.

You mean like this one I wrote for EQ2Emu? It's here, just disabled right now because, well, there are no bugs.

Actually that looks really good. Would that be easy to setup for VGOEmu? For me, it would be nice to look at a list to see all the current bugs so I could see what is important and work on those first.

You bet. It's mostly there already, just have to change some script paths. Also, this bug tracker will link directly to the in-game /bug reporter, for when we get that set up. Player submits a /bug, and (providing VGClient isn't hardcoded to a URL) the bug data is submitted up through World to the LoginServer database for display on our site.

I opened the VGO Bug Tracker, though it still a work-in-progress. I want to catch in-game bugs in the system, plus offer a form in the tracker itself for submitting bugs for other stuff. It's mostly working, if you want to give it a try. I expect SQL errors, since there's about 1,000 queries I don't really need (originally written when I was a noob back in 2008 )

I don't know how I missed your last post from a week ago! Is there a way I can subscribe to your posts so I can see everything you post? Anyway, I just checked out the bug tracker and it looks great. I just submitted a bug and it worked!

I can email you a copy

Bug Tracker needs a little more work, but soon you will be able to publish the bugs there to a Server, Content or Tools Bugs forum too (for when devs need more info on a bug from the community).

Ironically, Bug Tracker had a whole lot of bugs, which I just spent the last 2 hours fixing - hopefully.
  • You can submit bugs from the forums (only, for now) and it actually remembers who did it.[/*:m:20lury38]
  • You can also search on those Bug Authors, whether it be in-game character or forum submitters.[/*:m:20lury38]
  • Default all forum bugs to the New Telon server (for now). Probably add a generic one later if needed.[/*:m:20lury38]
  • Added a "Summary" column (which EQ2 had, VG doesn't seem to have one). This is a dev-only field that we can sum up the bug if needed. I'll need summary for[/*:m:20lury38]
  • Forum posting of bugs is disabled - something changed in 3.0.12 phpBB3 that prevents outside scripts from shoving in new posts... go figure.[/*:m:20lury38]
  • Finished modifying code to allow status and assignment updates.[/*:m:20lury38][/list:u]

This ain't Bugzilla. It's something I whipped up to integrate with EQ2Emu's /bug reports, which VG's are totally different (of course) so things are not as smooth as I'm used to. But, it should work - if anyone uses it

All Devs (and soon, Content Designers)

Please be in the (casual) habit of reviewing bugs in the Bug Tracker. The best search criteria is ALL, status Assigned. You can even filter by your name if you want. We have 16 Assigned bugs, lots on me and things I cannot fix yet, but if there's something in there you can remedy, please do. Players are going through the trouble to report defects, we should be addressing them as we can.

I know Bug Tracker and Project Manager makes this feel like "a job", so I cannot force you to do it. Just know everything I have to do myself is that much less I can do for the community or the server progress.

Thanks in advance (again)!
