Hello, everyone! I must say that this is quite the endeavor that you're all undertaking, and that I honestly had no idea that anyone would care enough to save one of the potentially greatest and unsung MMOs of the decade.

I'm not exactly sure what I could do to help out with or where I should start but I'll be darned if I don't help make some sort of difference in saving Vanguard!

I only had the pleasure of playing it for a month before the dreadful announcement was made. Just let me know where I should go/do, and I'll be glad to lend a hand to the best of my limited abilities! ^_^;

Welcome, the best help you can offer at this stage is to stick around for the duration and help us to "remember" how to rebuild this game once the live servers are gone. One of the biggest faults of Vanguard is there were not many diverse resources for the game, and who knows if those sites will stay running after the game is gone. We'll need player expertise from here out.

And helping to "remember" would entail what exactly?

Archiving information about the game, mayhaps?

If you played the game and know how it functions, your memory would be a good start. We have a couple people archiving websites for us, though I am hopeful they will stick around for a while.

One thing Foof needs urgently are combat calcs. That is, how the game determined how much damage (or healing) PCs and NPCs dished out. Not the # exactly, we can get that from parsing combat logs. But we need to know exactly, my str * my level / my fatigue + my_whatever.... probably a ton of stats to consider during combat in VG. All of it equaled the spanking you gave your foe while playing VG. That would be helpful, if you could find combat calculation anywhere (blogs, SOE dev forum, etc)

Hmm....

So to go about doing this I would need to fight enemies (preferably without armor?) and record the amount of damage done from the combat log?

No, what we're after isn't that simple (of course ) By the time you're swinging your sword, the game already knows how much damage you are to do. It's those calculations done server-side we're after. What we're looking for are posts out there in the world somewhere, where someone did all the calcs based on what you're suggesting. I mean, you're welcome to do the math, but there might be someone out there who already did it.

See this post for some info: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=521

Wowie! I'm not much of a math whiz but I'll certainly be reading up on this!
