Details:
Left click and right click on an equipped bag both show contents of the bag. In order to move the bag so it's not equipped, you have to drag it into an empty slot in your inventory.

Handled client-side. There is no code from the server to open a bag. If you click on it and it opens, the client did that. I believe that is out of my control--I do not get a message from the client asking me to handle unequipping the bag to inventory.

OK, thanks for clarifying.

So I understand - you can left-click to pick up any item whether it is equipped (armor/weapons), in any bag in your inventory, or in the bank. However, you cannot left-click to pick up an equipped bag.

The only way to unequip a bag (it has to be empty) is to hold down the left button and drag it to an empty slot in your inventory.

This is a limitation of the client, so nothing can be done.
