Waiting on Data from World Server
  • Quote

Post by jimbo » Fri Aug 01, 2014 8:15 pm

John - I have successfully got server up - Kangaroo - and have created a char on it (and I see someone else has as well) but when I try to actually log in to server - it just stays on 'waiting on data from Kangaroo" - any ideas - I've added all the firewall rukes and port forwarding that I can think of

regards
Jim Gall

P.S My Brother is also trying to get a server going - both of us have extensive programming/database/architecture experience as well as long time MMO and VG players so keen to help where we can

Hey Jim, if your brother is mons00n, we were chatting earlier. If you could, try your attempt again and capture the log file (in the logs folder) of just when the client starts to talk to the world on down to the failures.

What we're looking for are lines like this in the world Log:
18:47:50.445 I UDP New client connected from 68.98.218.5
18:47:50.446 I UDP Received session request from 68.98.218.5 with connection ID 369277030
18:47:50.528 I Chunk New Session: Account ID: 1 Session ID: 'xxx'
That is usually the client connecting to the public loginserver, and your first character that is highlighted is requesting it's information from the world he belongs to. If you are not seeing this information, you likely do not have port 10102 TCP open for the LoginServer to ask your world for the character data.

Waiting on data means exactly that; waiting for your world to respond. If it does not, you cannot retrieve that character - but you can make characters all day, because the creation process is slightly different.

On my side, I know something is blocked because I see this in the Login's log:
19:29:59.346 I Net Received world info request for Kangaroo
19:29:59.346 E Net Unable to connect to world server 'Kangaroo': The world is down
19:30:02.413 I Net Received world info request for Kangaroo
19:30:02.413 E Net Unable to connect to world server 'Kangaroo': The world is down
19:30:02.414 I WSList World server 'Kangaroo' connected from (your IP)
19:30:05.472 I Net Received world info request for Kangaroo

When it is successful, I will see something like this in Login:
17:09:06.035 I UDP New client connected from 68.98.218.5
17:09:06.035 I UDP Received session request from 68.98.218.5 with connection ID 1224091869
17:09:06.179 I Net New session request for session 'xxx'
17:09:09.107 I Net Received world info request for New Telon
17:09:33.720 I UDP Client from 68.98.218.5 set to disconnect : Application
17:09:43.924 I UDP Client from 68.98.218.5 has been removed
Those last 2 lines mean the client has left Login headed into the world.

Foof/Xinux, please correct anything I may have gotten wrong. It's late and I'm exhausted.

Can you post your vgemu-world.xml? (replace your ip addresses with what address it is...IE local ip, internet ip ect). Also replace your server account info obviously.

Ok - I've attached three files - one is a screen dump of what I see when the server is running - also a screen dump of my Router port forwarding rules - as well as the WORLD XML file.

I know your site is connecting to me - as there are characters being created (what port/protocol does that use?)

What I'm not sure of thought is whether the port forwarding is actually working - its possible my ISP has disabled port-forwarding in some way
even though I can configure it.

Anyway- - if you can shed any light that would be great.

Note: I did try running the server on a different PC (Win7) but had the same problem. Also I've changed the IP address of
my host to .7 from .30

I see nothing in the server log screen after the initial startup - except when someone creates a character - I see messages about that.

As for what protocols 10102 is TCP the rest are UDP. I just logged in and ran around on your server fine so I'm not sure, you're using the vgemu client launcher to connect to the public login right? You can also get that message if you made a character and it was wiped your your world DB. Delete that character on login if so.

I recommend opening up some more udp ports in the range of 10194-10230 or so as well.

John - still no go. Maybe its an issue trying to connect from internal network - out to internet then back on same IP??
I'll get my brother to try in the morning - if he can't get in then obviously your dong something different with your client - maybe you
have a different version of VG - I logged into the Real vanguard about 2 days ago - so my client should be right up to date

Hi John - trying something different - going to tether my laptop to my mobile phone - run VG on it and connect in - so should eliminate any issues with trying to run and log in from same network.

As a matter of interest - how is your network configured - can you do that

Oh well - that didn't work either - so running from a completely different network - has the same effect - so you must have your client configured differently in some way. Any more suggestions? - can you send me a link to the latest VGEMU client launcher in case I've got the wrong one

hi again - Wondered if it could be related to my account id - 99 - have you had a limit on this in some way? Also - I logged onto new Telon and had some company - was impressed to actually see another person live - I thought maybe it was only a solo experience so far - and chat channel was working - so all in all what more do you need
