Which 'version' of VG will this be?
I hope when this project launches you will not be using the current iteration VG to start out with. After each update, especially the level cap increase, there was much more incentive to skip most of the content and start your PotA farming. I think the introduction of the Shores of Darkness and level cap increase made the game much much less fun to play. There was almost no dungeon crawling, it was just mob grinding in the same boring spots.
Personally, I think starting out with the APW update (which I think was GU3?) would be the best choice since that's really where the game should of been at launch. I would also like to see the xp rates reduced to where they were around launch, this way people will actually level through content rather than doing the HL questlines and grinding.
Just my 2c.

Need to be able to crawl before you can walk. Project is still very much in its infancy and I am sure that those that are contributing to it will help guide the play style / era / flavor of the Vanguard Emulation.

Luxer, I agree, in principle. As a game emulation project, our primary goal is to "emulate" the game as-is - and by this I mean mechanics, mostly. We have no choice but to implement (for example) crafting the way it is today. If it has changed since 2007, there's very small chance we can "guess" how that functionality worked, without live packets from 2007.
That said, 100% of the content you see in any emulator is custom built. This means, it can be anything you want. Including things like original starting areas, quests, mob level caps, etc. Our goal is to build a fully customizable world. Once our content development starts rolling, server admins can take our Official Content Database and tweak it any number of ways to be original VG, or even something completely unique.
Hope that answers your question.
