I had a dear friend who might still be alive had we known this project was still ongoing. She had a serious drug problem but after being introduced to Vanguard in 2013, she gave up the drugs and got addicted to Vanguaard. Sadly, Sony closed down the server and unsatisfied with the other MMRPG's out there, she backslid crept back into her drug habit and eventually died from an overdose. I'd known her since her birth and even bottle fed her when she was little. She died far too young.

Enough of the sad stuff - I'd like to help test in my spare time. I am a software developer so I know the kinds of things developer's need to help re-produce and fix problems. I am also an avid PC gamer. My first MMRPG was Ultima Online followed by Everquest (where I met my wife who is also an avid gamer), World of Warcraft and my favorite: Vanguard which my wife and I played from beta until the servers closed down. We played other MMRPGs too but those are the main ones we played. My wife and I had 2 Vanguard accounts each, and each account was full of characters - we like to twink! My wife and I have an 11 year old son who will probably play once the game reaches the point where regular players are allowed. I can't list all the names of my characters but I only maxed out my main (Gruff, a wizard) although most of my characters were at least level 25. My main was a master stone artificer and builder of houses (on two continents and was working on the third) and my wife was a master ship builder (I think on all three continents). If anyone on here also played Everquest on the Prexus server, my wife and I were in Adventurers Anonymous where we met as guildmates. My wife's name in both games was Kats. I think we played on the Xeth server in Vanguard but neither of us can remember our guild names. The player base was too fluid and guilds too quickly came and went in Vanguard.

Wow how heartbreaking, I'm so, so sorry to hear about your friend Gruff. I have a similar story, though it didn't end nearly as tragically.

My husband was totally addicted to VG (played 7 days a week, sometimes up to 20+ hours in a sitting!). He's a disabled vet and is generally at home, so it's something he could enjoy doing and was a way for him to have some social interaction outside of the bar. Once the game closed down he closed down in a way too. He started frequenting the bars several nights per week and drinking FAR too much. Seeing this and being scared of what might happen next, I started looking into games he might be interested in in hopes that I could find him a different outlet. He tried several but of course, nothing compared to VG. Knowing he was in a downward spiral and needed to make some changes, he finally settled for EQ2. He enjoys the game, but hates it at the same time because "it's no Vanguard".

It's strange how the game has helped both he and your friend with substance abuse issues... I wonder how many others are out there with similar stories?

Is your husband one of the alpha testers? My wife and I have been testing the newbie quests in the dwarf and halfling homelands. With so many races and classes, there is plenty that he can mess around with and can help test at the same time. I enjoyed just being back in the game and looking around with my 11 year old son watching. I haven't seen a document that specifies which chunks are done except I saw a post that most newbie stuff, Three Rivers, Renten Keep and Silver Lake appear to be done or nearly so. I checked out Qalia and it appears to be a work in progress other than the newbie stuff. It might do your husband good to just see the game slowly coming back to life.

Dear mates, it's a sad reading...thankfully for your husband the help is coming, Wheema. I know, it must be hard for him, especially when he loved VG so much :-/. I had same sad feeling during the very last VG day. It was like a mixture of sadness, emptiness and rage inside of me. No other MMO is like VG. I would be optimist. VGemulator is progressing and some areas are almost perfect (IoD for example). I believe in the core team and their admirable effort. They are not giving up a thing and I simply love them for that.

I joined VGOemulator yet before VG sunset (July 2014) and have been player/tester till the moment, when Jakkal posted via FB "Clean up Crew Wanted!" (November last year). Since then I am helping to finish chunks (especially clean up the mess) and writing my own scripts (learning by doing LUA scripts) to save precious time of our Devs and content makers. So, if you want to do something more then play/test/provide feedback, I would recommend to contact either Jakkal or Moldew and ask them for the possibility of active engagement But - for instance - you have to be ready to dedicate +-10hrs/week of your free time and be resistant to "copy/paste mouse click" routine. That´s what clean up crew team member does mostly and as far as I know, that´s the most common reason for the job quitting :( But someone has to do it ;)

If you are skilled programmer or so, I would recommend to contact Xinux. I know nothing about DB, Dev etc :)

Anyway, good luck mates, stay with VGOemu and enjoy the game, no matter its completeness :)

This is a true testament to how awesome of a game Vanguard IS (not was, thanks to a few people). I'm sorry for your loss. Hit me up in game if you want, I play on Laerith.
