Some of my (sub)accounts not working
 • Quote

Post by shargash » Mon Feb 27, 2017 11:50 am

Some time ago I created several accounts under my main account with the idea of doing multi-box testing. I have not used those accounts for a while (not since the last character wipe). When I launch the game, I'm able to sign in with those accounts. However, when VG comes up, I am never able to connect with a world server. Any attempt to create a character hangs at the "select a server" screen.

The next time I run launchpad, I get the following error:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
If I click Cancel, I will get this error every time I run launchpad. If I click continue and then sign into a different account (one of the ones I've been using recently, or a new one I just created) launchpad is fine. I re-downloaded launchpad, but that had no effect (I was running the latest version anyway). I think it is a problem with the accounts. I decided to just delete them, but I don't see any way of doing that in account management (though account management implies that I should be able to do that).

Obviously, this isn't a big deal for me, as I can just keep creating new accounts. However, I figured someone should look into it at some point.

The details of the message are as follows:
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Still happens.

At the moment I have 7 (sub)accounts. Three of them work fine. Four don't work. I can freely switch back and forth between those that work and those that don't, so I don't think it could be that the server wasn't up. It almost has to be something specific to those accounts (a database issue with them, I would suspect).

Edit: I believe I have figured out the problem. The accounts that weren't working have characters that are on a server that is not up. The client seems to be hanging trying to contact the server that holds the non-New Telon characters. Once I deleted the characters in the Accounts page (and gave it a couple minutes to clean up), the problem went away.

Launchpad did not deal with this very well after I cancelled out of the client. It did not remember the account in the accounts pulldown, and it gave the error message I referenced above.

My specific problem is solved. However, we'll probably have servers other than New Telon at some point, so it would probably be good eventually to understand what happened to my accounts.
