Shaman Patron Quest. Help Requested

I tried Googling for this, but nothing came up that was helpful.

Does anyone remember, in as specific detail as possible, how the Shaman Patron quest worked? I've got some of the dialogue for Tuurgin, but I'm not certain how it's all put together. And the quest information merely states "Decide to follow Hayatet, Tuurgin or Rakurr"

How did one decide? I thought you needed to talk to someone first, but I can't find it (In Halgarad at least).

If anyone remembers how this works, I'd really appreciate it if you can explain it. I only did it once on my toons, and I don't remember any of it (Wolf shaman).

I believe they dumbed the whole thing down quite a bit after f2p launch. If I remember correctly, you just had to go to a trainer in Khal or New Targanor I think (could be wrong about NT, I usually just rifted into Khal for this type stuff) and choose a patron. It was horrible. It removed one of the best parts of VG, and really piss ed me off.

As far as the original quests go, I can't remember any specific details, it has been too long. But, I will try to search YouTube and any other source to find some info.

Alright thanks. I don't have a whole lot of time to go searching for stuff, so if you find it, please link me! I'd like to restore the original quests if I can.

Glenzig,
If you have time and want to try and find the details for the harmonious monk quest, I would appreciate it too. I am pretty sure I collected the quests to go dragon or drunken or switch specialties, but Harmonious was long gone by then.

I just spent a couple hours going through my old logs, and I can't find out anything about the old quests. I created a shaman in Feb 2007, but I wound up losing logs from about Mar 2007 (when the shaman was 10) to early 2008, when he was 29. During that time he did both the Hyatet and Rakurr quests, but I can't really remember anything about the quests. I had 5 other shamans of all three types, but the oldest of those was created in 2010, when the new system appears to have been in place.

For what it is worth, the new system looked pretty much like this:

1. Find Dirsa Atii in the Temple of Sea and Sand in Khal and get the quest "The Path Ahead." You must be level 15 to get the quest.
-- Dirsa Atii says, "May the spirits aid you in your decision."
2. The quest involves running to another NPC within the Temple of Sea and Sand to get a feather. My logs do not have the name of the NPC in it, but I'm pretty sure he/sha was in the Temple, upstairs on the balcony, IIRC.
--- You gain 213 adventuring experience!
-- <color=yellow>The Path Ahead completed.
3. Return to Dirsa Atii. He gives you the quest "Hayatet - Intensity, Life, Renewal" (obviously different for the other two types)
-- Dirsa Atii says, "The feather will allow me to make a Hayatet Totem for you. Shaman carry these totems in order to maintain a connection with their patron spirits."
-- You say, "Farewell"
4. Hail Dirsa Atii again to complete the quest and get your totem.
-- You say, "Farewell"
-- You gain 1206 adventuring experience!

I tried to reconstruct that from my log file. Some of the details may be off. Glenzig is correct, it was dumbed down from the original.

I did a fair amount of web searching as well, and I could come up with nothing. I would suggest that we let one of the content designers come up with a series of quests, one for each patron, one on each continent (Hayatet on Qalia, etc).

That makes some sense, as I think I found a quest like that in Halgarad for the Bear Shaman that seemed similar. I found an NPC you have to talk to, maybe he gives you something related to the bear?

If anyone does remember anything about the old quests, please let me know. As I'd love to try to restore them or perhaps write my own that are in the same spirit as what we think VG should be.

One thing to note -- I *think* (very fuzzy on this) that the original quests were only in one place on each continent, and each place would only give the quest for a single patron. In other words, you would get the Hyatet quest in Khal and the Turrgin quest in Halgarad. However, the original game had factions that would get you killed in the wrong place. IIRC, everyone was non-KOS in Khal, maybe Halgarad too, but I'm not sure.

In the second version of the quest, you could get all three quests at any shaman trainer. Frex, it was possible to get the Rakuur and Turrgin totems in Khal, as well as Hyatet.

Maybe someone remembers that more clearly than I do.

So one of my guildies that played a shaman told me what he remembers of the quest is that you had to seek out Tuurgin all over the world. Does this ring any bells?

If it was just a hide-n-seek game then I might think of doing something new and fun. The Cleric quests required they prove themselves to become whatever cleric type they became. I feel like the Shaman should be similar.

For example:
A bear shaman, as the big fighter and protector (tank) should have to potentially give up their own lives to save another. This would prove themselves in the eyes of Tuurgin.

A wolf shaman, as the stealthy, swift fighter (melee dps) might have to fight to save the life of someone who is being oppressed, or to stand up and fight in the face of evil to protect the good.

A phoenix shaman would have to peck at stuff until it finally breaks. (I'm joking, I can't think of one for the phoenix right now, but it would be in the same vein as above). I suspect as the caster they would need to use their knowledge of spells to protect someone.

Just have them light a chick on fire to become a phoenix shaman.

Not sure if you still need it, but I found the Tuurgin and Hayatet quest line. Couldn't find the Rakuur quest line. If I recall, they redid these at one point, so I think these are the old ones.
