Tanvu Progress Thread

1. The quest "One Hand Clapping"
Completed the quest after one dragonfly kill. This is incorrect. This quest required between 5 and 7 kills to complete.
I checked the script on this one. You got lucky. There's a 1 in 6 chance to get the update on a dracofly kill.
2. The quest "Oki's Jewels".
Completed after one kill. Also incorrect, unless I just got really lucky with the rng. Typically this would take at least 5 or so kills to complete.
I checked this one as well and it was set to to just one kill. I've changed it to a 1 in 5 chance.
I can't hop on to update the quest scripts, but it should update nexttime one of the devs or content designers runs the command.
Are you sure that is correct Jakkal? When you did "One Hand Clapping" on live it would give you a massage about the buzzing quieting as you killed dragonflies. It always took me at least 5 kills to complete.

Re: Tanvu Progress Thread
You'll need to be more specific then, I didn't script this quest or have time to actually run through it.
All I checked was the chance of getting the objective completion, which is a 1 in 6 chance. It's not scripted for a progression of kills. If that's what it requires then this quest will need to be redone. (I'm not entirely sure this is something we can do right now).

Re: Tanvu Progress Thread
Ok. I'll try to find something more specific than my rusty memory. Thank you.
Re: Tanvu Progress Thread
Random is random I just did it and it took me about 10 kills.
Re: Tanvu Progress Thread
I did this quest line a ton on live servers. I know it definitely took a minimum amount of kills to complete. I'm not exactly sure of the number. It gave an onscreen message as you killed each dragonfly. It was something alon the lines of "The buzzing begins to quiet". And it would progress every couple kills to something slightly different. The amount of kills wasnt ever random that I remember. It had at least a minimum amount of kills needed.
The problem I need to solve is the minimum amount of kills, and the wording of the messages. There was no kill count listed in the quest log, so that may be very hard to nail down. I'm pretty sure I can figure out what the messages were though.

Re: Tanvu Progress Thread
Glenzig is correct with the description. It was a fairly abstract quest; I don't think it directly tracked kills, so much as the number of onscreen updates. From what I recall, you were more likely to get an update from dragonflies that were closer to the quest giver, and less likely for the ones downhill in the field. So just as a rough estimate...something like distance < 50 is 1/3 chance for an update, greater distance is 1/6 chance. If it can't be set up that way, it at least shouldn't be possible to finish from a very small number of kills; but at the same time, it shouldn't randomize you out to a huge number either.
Re: Tanvu Progress Thread
I knew I wasn't crazy!! Thanks Amnath. That is exactly how I remember it. Unfortunately, after nearly an hour of scouring, I couldn't find anything more than a general description of this quest.
I have to say, for as passionate as we were about this game, most of us (myself being probably near the top of the list) sure didn't put a ton of effort into documenting anything.

Definitely agree with you, but also think it was because of the times. Youtube was very new, only around for 1-2 years at the time, Connections were worse, and streaming culture / let's plays had really to take off with full force. World of Warcraft was probably the only well documented at the time via places like Thottbot / Allakhazam. That's another thing is that web development also was a lot harder back then with less resources / libraries / frameworks to build off of.
Re: Tanvu Progress Thread
OK. I may be crazy after all. Either that, or this quest was revamped for some reason after the ftp conversion. Dude is starting a rogue on tanvu and picks up the quest in this video. As you can see, the proximity doesn't seem to affect the quest. And there doesn't appear to be any onscreen message as he is killing. I also counted only 3 kills total. I digress.

Re: Tanvu Progress Thread
So i just looked into this extensively and was able to find a video that confirms the Dragonfly / dracofly messages when killing them while doing this quest.
After the first Dragonfly kill the text flashes " The air grows slightly more still." Reading the quest text implies that you should " only kill the dracoflies necessary to dull the noise".
https://youtu.be/NunN54UvWZM?t=5m15s
Also seems that this guy completed after 3 kills as well. If you slow down the video you can see the message "The air grows slightly more still" pop up again after the 3rd kill right before the QUEST COMPLETE.
