Invisibility breaking; DK & monk paralysis

One of the things that made me feel like an idiot was using invisibility to cruise through a bunch of mobs; especially at low levels, you would get warnings that it was about to wear off. Of course, I was worried that re-casting it would make you visible, so you would certainly bite the dust. It took years for me to realize that casting did not break invisibility--only the final/completed cast did. So you can stay invisible as long as you want.

Is there any point to big red warnings all over the screen which simply prompt you to hit the same button again and continue unimpeded?

With DK, shadow step + harrow is definitely a signature move, but in place of harrow, there was an option for a paralysis strike. This would seem to give the DK an option to do a little CC when attacking multiples, but, in practice, it seems like this was never really allowed by the player base. Psis, rogues and the like tended to take over the whole process, would do it when you didn't need it, and so on, so I never really used this ability. Was something wrong with it, or does anyone have a better impression of using it?

Similarly, monk also had some kind of paralysis strike, but I can't remember even getting it to work. Seemed like it was intended as a way to get out of FD if something was standing beside you, as it was only for "out of combat". I suppose a monk could get a sorc invis or drink a potion so they could act like a rogue, but for the most part, I don't think it ever got me out of a jam--anyone have a better perspective on this?

I used to use the strike a bit on DK, but also I remember that I could stay alive for longer by using the aoe drain - which often meant hitting the potential target for paralysis thus rendering the paralysis ineffective.

Also, the Rogue could do it without entering combat whereas the DK could not.

Was that solo or in group? As solo, I usually hit the hardest thing I could barely survive, so getting a second mob aggro'd would have been a bad idea--but that was a playstyle choice.

DK scythe was such an effective thing and that was my frustration with rogues, etc. I get this limited amount of AoE stuff that's really useful, and spend the majority of the game not being able to use it. Maybe just because I didn't want to get into it with cc'ers doing their thing and then complaining if they were asked not to use their class abilities. I guess with a group I wanted to tank multiples so it would be something "more" than 1 on 1 soloing.

It's sort of an oxymoron, having someone who wants to hit everything beside a guy who wants to lock it down. Sort of like with a dps toon, as solo you want to hit as hard as you can, but then in a group you find that doesn't usually go too well. It's really more fun to "find the alchemy" for the right mix of dps, tanking, and cc, but people tend to play "by the rules". So, the paralysis thing never seemed useful to me.

I just wanted to comment on the Monk skill again. It did work, I used it quite a lot on my monk. First you used your teleport skill to get behind the target then stun him. Then you was free to take out his buddy while he was stunned. For the stun skill though you had to be out of combat and be behind the target. So, using this as an opening attack in with the teleport skill was the only way to make it work.

SoE decided that they did not want these two skills used in conjunction with each other so they nerfed it. In effect they rendered the stun skill useless. Also, since the monk didn't really have any other skill that had to be used from behind the teleport skill was really just a nifty little novelty after that.

AH I JUST REMEMBERED!!!!

I couldn't think of the name yesterday when I posted this in the community forums. If my fragmented memory is serving me correctly at the moment I believe the name of the Monk's stun skill was called "Nerve Strike"

I did not know that Monk's Nerve Strike was originally pretty much the same thing as DK Paralysis Strike.

By keeping it an "out of combat" ability, the only way I could see it being useful, is if you happened to Feign Death, behind where the mob would reset to, but still in striking distance. Then maybe it could help you get away.

As a DK main, I don't remember ever really using the Paralysis. I could see, perhaps, one of the specialized monk paths getting a Warp + Nerve Strike, but for the most part, Crowd Control does not seem to pertain to either class. DK has "Frighten" which seems to fit and is probably enough.
