Anyone interested in hosting a PvP server?

Title says it all really. I'm looking for people who would want to set up a PvP realm once VGOE gets up and running. (great work so far btw guys, just logged in to experience combat for the first time today and it was amazing! Keep it up!)

I've had a few ideas for the server, some of it I know might not be feasible but this is just some stuff I've been kicking around in my head. ( Keep in mind if nobody is a big fan of changing much around we could just have it be regular ol' VG with PvP switched on.)

- Cut off IOD as a starting point and force you to start at your racial hometown to have that racial "identity" from the very beginning.

- Maybe a team based PvP system that teams up players of the same guild/race/continent or faction(not sure if this one is possible, but would be cool to go KOS with dwarven NPCs for example and have dwarven players become kos as well)

- Having some lore appropriate custom content after all the original stuff gets stale to keep progression going, but also try to keep the stats from getting ridiculous.

- Maybe bring the difference between levels and gear power-wise down across the board, so while a level 50 is a strong MF a group of lower level players could still have a shot against him. This would be really tedious and again I'm not sure how much control we'd have in this department, but it would definitely make PvP more fun for all players and would also add a bit of realism into the mix as well.

- Weaken quest given items across the board, making the best items obtainable by doing group activities like dungeon delving and taking out tough world bosses or being a very skilled crafter.

- Slightly mix up where certain drops come from or where certain special mobs spawn occasionally to make players have to actually adventure and discover things instead of just hopping on a wiki and knowing where everything is.

- Have different events ranging from BotB and guild vs guild tournaments to Ultima Online style monster invasions on different cities or towns.

I don't know much about running a Vanguard server, but I'd be willing to learn any skills necessary to be a capable member of our team, and since I want to one day design high fantasy MMOs the experience really couldn't hurt.

I guess that's pretty much it for now, if anyone would be interested in forming up the team or just have some ideas for the server you'd like to share either PM me or post here.

As a veteran of Sartok, I would be interested.

I have no issue with the ideas you mentioned, though with no IoD, we still need to tackle the problem of a very thin playerbase, that will be widely scattered. One thing I recall vividly from Sartok was how long it took to actually find someone else to actually PvP against in game (most of the PvP seemed to be on the forums).

I think your idea of Team PvP is spot on (FFA would just be a trainwreck).

Anyhoo, I am interested, and have enough dev background to set one up (been looking for an excuse to set one up anyway)

Awesome! Nice to have you on board man. I'll get a teamspeak set up here soon so we can have somewhere to bounce some ideas back and forth.

but yeah I agree about IOD, we should think of ways to keep everyone from not seeing anybody especially early on when the playerbase is thin. Maybe keep IOD in there until the pop exceeds x number (maybe 1-200 primetime or something?) and we could have a global chat as well to take care of the "loneliness" issue.

and early on especially I think having events atleast once a week to bring everyone together would help towards building our community.

Figured out how to enable part of the PVP ruleset in the client where you can target other players as offensive targets.

Count me in. I'm WAY too busy to offer any serious help for the next year or so, but please keep this forum updated. I'll happily follow along and join back in when I am able. Day 1 Sartok Vet here too

FYI, VGOEmulator has every intention of building PvP into the server core (as an option), so any C++ code being done outside this project should be submitted back to us for integration (if it complies with VG Live PvP standards). This includes extending the Rule Sets and data, if any.

If the code/data is custom, we'd still like to learn from it and possibly include it as options as well.
