Returning yet again, some questions

I'm still questing around the IOD, and to be honest, quest fatigue is setting in. I'm going to make it off this blasted island so I can see what it is like out there in the 'real' world. Is the mainland like this with all the back and forth quests?

Like a yo-yo effect--do some, and go back to the same place for something that it seems like could have been done at once?

It's a mixed bag. There's some of those and not really my favorite kind either. They have some linear chain quests, some massive collection quests, some where you get four or five at once for different kinds of mobs in the area, some that require using or finding an item in a certain place, some where you literally have to find an umarked path in order to get through, and some that are extremely subtle. Some things are without quests at all, like the Hold of Intangibility dungeon or some large gangs of stuff, even so, some of the possible loot is better than quest rewards. The stuff I recently did on my shamans was not a quest but a triggered event. So there's variety out there, thing is for the most part people are just doing the same five things. I can't say whether anyone should or shouldn't go with the crowd on a first toon especially, I can say that trying to seek out the nooks and crannies brings far less interest. We had another post in here recently for someone wanting different paths for leveling multiple characters and I think it touched most of the possibilities. Some of the outposts also have missives, which is not really a quest but a little extra item like a potion or something for killing stuff you'd probably kill there anyway.

In some cases I do things just because I like the environment, for example the 25ish stuff around Hathor Zhi is a bit yo-yo-ish but you can rent a flyer right there and I just plain like it whereas most of the low level Qalian rat trap stuff kind of gives me a headache. In no cases in this game are the good rewards really easy to get, and while I don't mind effort, I enjoy entertainment. Never finished a Craigwind weapon as I found killing that many cyclops just...didn't hold my attention...but Dargun's Tomb and Graystone both numerous times for appreciating the dungeons.

I seems like more of an IOD thing then. I'll see it through.

General consensus, it's not part of Telon, lacks the individuality of the real origin points, and is mostly a concentrated learning procedure on everything. It was implemented as a free 10 day taste years back before offering most of the game on a free basis. I only remember it vaguely but it seemed like go to the left several times then go right several times. Most everywhere else I can remember went through two little outposts then led to your racial city in a fluid manner. When I did it, I left for Tomb of Lord Tsang area then to Blighted Lands--which is another environment I like. Comparatively, the other two are more standard and basic in setting; not that it means anything wrong with them, and of course one doesn't have to just pick an area and sit there, check it all out and choose. Every day someone asks where should I go, and whatever answer comes along, they're like thanks and hit it. Same if someone asks what's best--no one could really answer that, but usually an answer is given and immediately taken. We can describe what we know and what we like, but the best one is the one you like.

Thanks Amnath. You're response has given me the driver to follow through and complete IOD.

    Very well put.

IoD is an introduction and training gound for 10 levels jammed into about a third of a chunk to keep it all together. they also were able to get crafting and diplo all nicely tied into the same areas and they have complimentary quests.

It really is very well done, from a pure VG introduction to the game for completely virgin players point of view. I have done it countless times, because I do enjoy it, though I do yearn for the old days of so many starter zones.

I assure you, there will be times you will lookback and wish your current quest areas was so small, compact and organized. Vanguard is a vast open world, and it can be very daunting, but worth every minute in the long run.

Lol, no. You got a driver from ATI, but had to use an additional tweak to get it to work.

Plenty of content to devour, some of it challenging and often frustrating. Even having high level characters, I'm still glad that Falgarholm is being redone for the 30s. Never got to play it before. So many dungeons available if you can get enough people who are not doing the same five things. To me, that's the spirit of leveling; cruise around and take the scenic route. Not everything is right at a rift and in some cases the map is not accurate level-wise.

Edit: missed Exmortis's comment. IoD is about 1/3 of a chunk? That is the compact of the compact.

I would just like to kindly thank everyone in this thread who helped out. Special thanks goes to Amnath for his continued (and continuing support). I was able to wrap out the Isle of Dawn yesterday and stepped foot into Kojan. Apart from dying multiple times due to the mysterious breathing bug (as in, choking to death), myself and another new player were able to cleanse the temple without issue.

I look forward to what this world has to offer :)

    Hi,

Well I took a break over the last few months from MMORPG's and was thinking about returning to the game. However, I just read this morning that SOE have decided to close Vanguard down later this year. Its a shame as I really enjoyed the time I spent playing the game and found the community to be really friendly and helpful.

I was going to copy/paste the good stuff from here in a tldr. We'll just leave it as it is for now.
