Blue Screen of Death

Discussion in 'General Tech Support Issues' started by ARCHIVED-dorotea, Aug 2, 2012.

  1. Last night I switched from the trial account to a full account - reactivating my old account (no existing characters - started new ones).
Today working on one of the new ones I got the blue screen twice with a dump of physical memory to disk. Both times in Khal walking around.
    Error message was Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area.
The chance of this being related to Vanguard seems quite high - I haven't had a memory dump problem for at least 2+ years - possibly dating back to ...the last time I played Vanguard. And that was on a different computer.
    Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks.
  2. The only time I have seen a Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area was due to a sound card driver bug.
Try updating your sound card drivers and see if the problem goes away. If that doesn't fix it try and disable sound in game and see if that fixes the issue.
Also please post the sound card you are using after you find out if thats the issue so we can try and get a reproduction case.
Easiest way to get that is to goto Start->run->DXDiag
Then type the name of the sound devices.
  3. i used to have this happen alot with all sorts of games... some would work perfect other would not...

im not a computer guy.. but i found out the dill hole who i bought the pc from installed a cracked version of windows 7

once i got a legit version all was well... for a while... not being pc savy... i also learned the value of cleaning your pc fans from dust..

i learned that even the smallest ammount of dust can impact preformance greatly.. .and i do mean greatly... pc was freezing bigtime on gw2 beta

untill i cleaned the thing lol

If you are using a Creative Soundcard, and 64 bit windows that might be the cause of the BSoD's. Creatives 64 bit drivers are junk and can casuse BSOD's in memory intensive programs like VG.
If you have a Creative Soundcard try changing the sound in VG to generic software that could eliminate the BSOD's. But even better is to replace the Creative soundcard. I used to have a Creative SB X-fi myself, and got BSOD'S in VG and other programs. After I replaced the soundcard the BSOD's were gone.
  5. Thanks for all the quick replies - I'm ...impressed.
I downloaded every update I could from Creative Labs and will see if that helps. One more crash and I'll go to generic sound. Two more and I'll go to no sound. Three more and I'll look run some of the tests I was reading about in the "blue screen" thread though at the moment I feel comfortable this isn't a hardware issue.
Ironic in that I got the soundblaster card (X-Fi series) almost solely because I figured they were the industry leader and were the LEAST likely to give me any crashes or compatibility issues with MMOs.
  6. i use a SBL x-fi, never BSOD on me . when i bought the card i was on 32bit xp , now im on 64bit w7 , all i did was use the 64bit drivers when i changed OS's haven't changed my sound card since. Still using the card after 4 years.
  7. Just to wrap it up - updating drivers - useless. Generic sound - useless. Turning audio off - no crashes in 2 days - I assume that was the answer much as I prefer having the sound on.
    Thanks.

Hello Dorotea! Please keep us updated and let us know if you have any more questions.
  9. It is usually ALWAYS this stupid Creative Soundblaster. All ppl i know with one of those cards, crash in Vanguard as soon as enabled. Same for me.
So just setup the Audio to Software sound and everything is fine.

    MANY ppl use Creative Cards.
This issue should REALLY posted for everybody new to avoid bad reputation among the net and leaving new dissapointed players !!
