Re: update to players
Yes IMO and it's only in my opinion, If you are more clear with your intentions of rebuilding VG, and again It's just my opinion If you were more clear on where YOU see the game as of now and Where your vision is rebuilding VG is. I believe you would get a lot more donations to help rebuild vg.
Re: update to players
OncaLupe, I talked to everyone on this project so many times and was even in guilds with them. I trust you. You are rebuilding VG because we all love it, but I would love to know the end goal, and why you are doing this for nothing. or are you hoping for some type of monetary value? We all know you would not rebuild VG for nothing. So first of all I'd like to thank you for helping to rebuild VG., Second id like more answers than what is given, I do not mean to be entiltiled, I just think the player base should be more included.
Re: update to players
OncaLupe I just think you're a kind-hearted person. meant to edit but hit the wrong buttons.
Re: update to players
We've always been clear with our intentions. Our goal is simple (though the execution is not):
We want to rebuild Vanguard to how it was more-or-less at Sunset, with some of the more annoying Free To Play changes reversed. Things like the Veskal's level change, closing Mekalia, etc.
We are doing this because we loved the game and want to see it running again, and hopefully expose more people to the world of Telon.
We are NOT doing this for money, or fame, or anything else. ALL 'donations' go directly to the server hosting account and are used to pay hosting fees. That's it. NONE of it goes to anyone working on the project.
See above. It's already been mentioned in this thread and elsewhere many times. We can't give you any more as that's all we have. There is no secret agenda to this. We are not hiding anything. We have been upfront and honest from the beginning of the project.
See above. We are doing this for nothing (in any monetary/fame sense). We just want to see the world alive again.
We can't give what we don't have. There is nothing hidden about what we're doing.
Then stop ignoring what we're saying. We have no ETA, we have no definite plan other than the above. That's it.
Players are free to ask questions and provide feedback. Happens time to time in Discord, and we answer to the best of our ability. I know you don't want to use Discord, but that's where the majority of the interactions and updates happen.
I'm not seeing it. You're constantly ignoring my answers, saying we have hidden agendas and saying we intentionally keep info from players. Doesn't feel like trust to me.
Re: update to players
Ok, Why rebuild a dead game? What are you hoping for in rebuilding this dead game? If there any monetary value if not why even waste your time?OncaLupe wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 11:57 pmWe've always been clear with our intentions. Our goal is simple (though the execution is not):

Re: update to players
yes, you can say we are hardcore fanboys till we are both blue in the face, but let's say you rebuild Vanguard and it becomes popular again and you have so many players on the server that you can't handle. What's yours as developers expect?
Re: update to players
It's bizarre (and kind of sad) to see someone not be able fathom a reason of doing something outside of monetary value.
Building something we love from scratch is beyond rewarding, especially when new players are exposed to it and enjoy our work. I have been absent from contributing to the project for awhile now due to life stuff, but before that, I had committed probably 100-200 development hours to the project. It was the coolest feeling in the world when I implemented new features and players started using them, etc. Monetary compensation was the absolute last thing on my mind at any point. Can you at least understand that?
I can't speak for the whole team, but if the game blew up and the emu became immensely popular, I can guarantee money will STILL remain the LAST thing on the teams' mind and agenda. The team would adjust as needed; I'm sure more volunteers would arise to help out, and the motivation would never be higher to continue to build and support the project.

Re: update to players
I commend you and totally understand where you are coming from, but do you think the 1 person or team working for 8+ years to rebuild this game from scratch is expecting nothing in return? So a free game that you can rebuild at no cost but your time, given that time spent could be raising your family, taking ur kids to baseball practice or spending time with your wife, or just time spent on you? Do you really think they are rebuilding a dead game that they have free access to to rebuild in their version of the game? for nothing? Would you take soo many hours out of your day or lifetime to do something that doesn't benefit you or your family?VincentG wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 6:12 am It's bizarre (and kind of sad) to see someone not be able fathom a reason of doing something outside of monetary value.

Re: update to players
Vanguard was my first MMO, and I played from Beta to Sunset. I have profound memories of the game and still even keep in touch with people I met through it. Getting to be a part of a dev team where I can code features and help rebuild this game has been one of the most rewarding coding experiences of my life. I don’t need money for it. Sure, it would be amazing if we got paid on top of everything, but again, I don’t need it. I do my coding for side projects late at night after my wife and daughter are asleep, so it doesn’t affect my daily life.
But nevertheless, you have to understand the concept of “volunteer” work. I also volunteer at the food bank sometimes, as well as the local veteran’s center and local library. I don’t get paid for that, but it’s very rewarding work that helps my community.
Does that help explain a bit more?

Re: update to players
Yes.
That's the point of Volunteer work, as VincentG mentioned. Also, this is not the only thing we do with our lives, which is part of why it takes so long to get done.
Yes.
Yes.
You've been given answers multiple times now, so please just drop it. If you can't understand why we're doing this by now, we won't be able to make you understand. If you can't understand that we don't have an ETA or hard set plans beyond what's been mentioned already, we can't explain it any other way.
