I am confident SOE knows about our collection efforts, and they don't care. We are no threat to them in any way. They know about our EQ2Emu efforts too (there's an old story about LE vs SOE Dev on our IRC, including an SOE Dev running an emu server just to check it out). There is even hearsay that VGOEmu was offered a "good luck" in our efforts from various SOE personnel. On the d/l, of course
I've always made it fairly clear to these communities that we (Project) do not condone piracy, back in the day when SOE delivered their client on DVD. Once they went digital download and F2P, there's nothing I can do to guide Emu players to "pay" for a supported client - which many have done. If anything, EQ2Emulator generated revenue for SOE on occasion

Oh I am sure they know too but I meant he doesn't know about me collecting over 5 GB of raw data lol
Ultimately, it would be awesome if SOE released the data to you to use, people have been asking for it for years, even for databases like Zews site, Xanadu and Telon Project and they were always refused, which is a shame.
If only VG wasn't shutting down, this project may have excited enough players to come back and help and then play on old school pre nerf servers, which would've supported VG and SOE on their live servers with game purchases for the client.
I keep dreaming but in 8 days, it will all be over

Probably should make a separate post for this but, what are the plans on who to obtain the client once SOE shuts down VG? With EQ and EQ2 you can just dl it from SOE, but how are we gonna handle VG? I imagine VGO EMU cant make it available but maybe someone with a server like Zewt could make it downloadable?

Thats a big question, makign it available won't annoy SoE, it will annoy Epic Games the owner of the Unreal Engine franchise.
Unreal 1.0 is open source, best case senario is Unreal 2.0 goes Open source in the next year or so, that will make it all a moot point.

Other option is new cient in UR 4.3.

19 bucks and no royalty when project collects no revenue. I guess the real question is, woudl the emu be "legal" enough to qualify.

The other question is, who's going to re-write the entire VGClient in Unreal 4? That's definitely too much for our team, unless we get dozens of people actively developing for this project - which has about as much chance as me winning the lotto tomorrow.

Oh I meant it as a tongue in cheek idea.
Whats is interesting is UR4 is much much cheaper than UR2 or 3 costs. Too bad they did not make it the same or less, VG may still be here. The UR2 costs were greater then the Dev/staff/server costs the last few years. Big reason why VG was shut down is it is very expensive to run on UR2 costs alone.

Hmmm....I alluded openly to an emulator in a post today on the official forum, although I didn't mention specifics. I wonder if I should be grabbing my ankles right now and preparing for a banning. Don't suppose I'll even get the courtesy of a reach around.

The forums were locked at the same time the server went down mate, so nothing to be banned from anymore lol
