Hey.

I'm a long time MMORPG gamer from Meridian59 through to Everquest Next.
Pretty much played em all. (EXCEPT WARCRAFT I'm proud to say

Vanguard was the one that held the most appeal. Closely followed by the Original Horizons. (now istaria),AC1, then Eve Online.

Out Monday Night Gaming sessions, we had, with a group of 5 always worked best in VG.

But.. Im a developer at heart. Been in the industry since 1980 (one of the first computer science students to graduate in 1984 from the then NSWIT now University of Technology in Sydney.

Commercial developer that is. Currently working in Sweden. (shld be working now..

Why am I here..

Like a few of the posts.. the challenge of the project is the attraction.

Getting stuff to work is a great buzz. Working with my twin bro on this as well, is great fun.

Also learning C++ is a 'plus' get it a plus.. ? as I'm a C# developer.

Was up till 1pm last night getting the Add Friends to work..the simple result of seeing the message on the friends VG client chat. 'You have been added as a friend of Axis' - was a buzz..

Hi all - as most of you guys have said - its the challenge and the lifelong love of gaming - from our original foray into Pen an paper D&D in the 1970's (original paperback booklets) to Vanguard and the rest. Vanguard just had that something indefinable about it - it may be the quirkiness and the bugs that actually made it enjoyable. I was having a meeting today with a client about a new IBM testing product that emulates corporate systems - and I managed to end the meeting with me discussing this project - white board and all !. No MMO I've played seems to have that 'reaslistic' graphical quality that Vanguard has. I take my hat off to you guys who have worked amazingly hard to get where you have - I only wish I had become involved earlier and been able to participate in collecting data. Additionally - the C++ coding you guys have come up with is first rate!

This project is more exciting to me than the live game had become.

I went to Vanguard after becoming bored/frustrated with other games that people talked me into, it was the only one I picked for myself, and that was after an extensive web browsing including tons of the original forum. When I first rolled into it, I knew it was the right choice. The depth of detail is a lot of what absorbs me, I liked it so much, sometimes I literally logged in just for the birdsong.

This was during its "dead" period after most of the original players had been chased off and it was almost like having a server to myself, there wasn't really even any chat, and I didn't care because it was that good. I think that was on Xeth.

My first grouping was at Trengal Keep and that pretty much sold me to Vanguard groups, and I liked it being lightly populated with there being just enough players to pug something sometimes. However, and I can't remember if it was pre- or post-Telon merge, I would have to say that pretty much every design change made by Sony blew chunks. I'm not just talking about the buggy patches, I mean the intended designs like putting ships in the shop and easy xp and too powerful of gear which reduced mobs to a few seconds lifespan, pretty much everything they did reduced my enjoyment. My hope is that the emulator won't load up with all that bloat that no one really needed and practically turned it into another "clone" game. So what I'm looking for is a kind of rewind that gets us to where the leveling content is enjoyable again, where say nailing TK6 is something groups enjoy doing, unlike the past couple of years where almost all I heard was "I just want xp" or "I just want the damn loot".

Im here cuz I just love playing VG. I've been playing MMOs since 2001 and I've played most of them. VG has the best combat and class designs I think. I like that players are not expendable in VG. A player with skill is much more valuable than a player without. A lot of other MMOs are too cut and dry these days - no depth, not enough role-definition in the grouping mechanics, critical thinking is not required, problems like that.

The early bugs and lag never bothered me. I was too busy having fun playing my class. A quest that I couldn't finish didn't bother me. APW was a blast (Trinity). RI was a blast. POTA/KDQ were okay. The overland raids were pretty good overall. Some of them were amazing! The RI revamp was pretty cool, too.

Here's my old photo album. Many pics not included were lost with a dead HDD but my love for the game and all it encompasses remains. Feel free to use these as you want. Not that they are all that good to begin with but its all I have left.

Haven't checked in for a while and I was afraid the emulator dream was dead. I'm very happy to be wrong, this is awesome.

Slowed down? All I can see is you gaining speed. You have more devs working on this game since most of them were dropped in 2010 (iirc).
