SOE: Vanguard shutting down July 31, 2014
This is incredibly sad for multitudes of reasons... the primary one for me being, this will devastate our ability to collect game data for the emulator but also in the fact that Vanguard really had potential to be a kick-ass game -- SOE should have invested more time into fixing it up instead of buying a broken dream and ignoring it for 5 years.
Hopefully this will bring in some attention to our project before the end. We're going to need some serious help with data collection.
Edit: Hah, nothing builds an emulator community faster than the game publisher shutting down the game Our community has tripled in size in 3 days!

Way to be dbags, SOE.
Why even do that unnecessary server merge when you're going to shut down the other server just a few months later, anyways?
Oh well. There goes my dream of owning a house/ship for at least a few years until it's introduced into the emulator.
EDIT: I feel particularly sorry for Free Realms. Was a great game. Too bad there's no private server for it. Worst time to kill it off, as well. One of the lead designers (Edwin Rosell) died in December 2013. Not unusual for SOE/Sony, of course. Going by all their horrible decisions, their PR team probably consists of a bunch of drunkards constantly smoking large amounts of weed.

Lol. Just got a friendly warning after posting this in the official forums.
Am I the only one who thinks the PR department should be replaced?
I know it's a Sony custom to fail at literally everything, but that's just one failure too much.
I mean, it's so easy to isolate the reason customers get pissed. Yet those highly trained marketing monkeys fail again and again.
The way Sony usually does business:
1. Announce a great new feature or service (unified Station Account subscriptions, in this case)
2. Shut down another service in return, making the new feature unattractive.
3. Rinse and repeat until SNE is converted into a penny stock.
Yea. I know. I wasn't very nice. But then, truth is supposed to hurt.
As a Sony shareholder, I feel like I should have the right to bash someone's skull in for all the crap Sony is doing. They're their own worst enemy.

So when are you going to dump their stock?

The majority of my posts have been removed in the last few months. I have had a tendency to mention 'project 1999' a lot. Any reference to any emu will get your post removed asap.

I don't own enough stock to do any serious damage, so probably whenever my purse is supposed to incur the least damage.
I actually considered doing an internship at Sony Computer Entertainment during my summer vacation (was offered to me by a higher up my mother knows personally), now I'm not too sure anymore.
Feeling indifferent towards both my work and co-workers (as is the status quo at my current government job) is probably superior to loving one's work but literally hating one's co-workers (as might be the case at that Sony internship).
Not sure what I would be able to do if one of their moronic managers happened to kill off a project while I was there.
I'm an artistically inclined person so, naturally, shutting down a game is akin to burning a great book or shredding a heartwarming painting, for me.
