I was also connected to EQ2 beta at the time and had no hiccup in connection there. Also after this happened I had a high ping (2k) to the server but it was stable.

EQ2 is far from dead, just those of us left over there are busy in rl. As for content, no programming is required just knowledge of the game, John made a nice web app that all you really have to do is look up the spawn you want, verify the location and click a button and it is on the official server ...

If you plan to use lua here as well it wouldn't take much to change my EQ2 lua editor over for here.
