Looking into helping out..
Hello all. My name is Makar I played Vanguard from launch and then off and on until about 2012. I started playing mmo's back with Ultima Online back in 1998. I eventually fell in love with Asherons Call and played that heavily until I first played Vanguard when it launched I LOVE vanguard to death and Im so sad to see it go. I have been lurking on these forums for a few months now off and on. I remember looking into a Vanguard Emu for a long time and only finding a small bit of info from a guy named Ramsey who posted some very preliminary things from Vanguards beta or launch packets.
Anyways, I worked on Ultima's TUS emulator (which was later re-named Sphere) for years. I have messed around with WoW and EQ1 emu's a bit as well. I can program in c++ and have experience with SQL databases and whatnot. In any event, I haven't been able to really do anything to help out or even post till now because my house burned down on Christmas day and we lost our computers and all that jazz, but now we are finally getting things back together and I would love to be able to help out in bringing Vanguard back to life. If you have need of any help, just point m in the right direction and I'd be more than happy to get down. Im sure you have an SVN setup and all so I guess I could download the source.
Anyways, I look forward to being part of the community in how ever I can. Thanks a ton!

Re: Looking into helping out..
Hello Makar, welcome to VGOEmulator.
We are very much in need of C++ developers to help us stabilize the current code, implement features in our coming cycle, and help us all learn more about this massive game as we grow together. Take a look at the public SVN code, and review our Project Manager (planner) app to see what's coming in v0.2 (next month or so).
Shoot me a PM if you want to discuss details. I'll wait to hear from you.

Thanks bro. I didn't want any of that stuff anyways. Im trying to convince my girlfriend to help out later on with content creation. She only played VG for a few days tho. She's a HUGE EQ2 junkie lol.

Nice! Well, we would love the extra help if she is up for it, no pressure though

The EQ2Emulator team urgently needs content developers too (plug plug).

Yea, honestly we thought the EQ2 emu was kinda dead or on life support lol. It didn't look like there was very much activity on the site or forums, but then like I said before currently I have to view it from my crappy phone. She LOVES EQ2. She knows that game like the back of her hand. If she is told/taught what to do she will sit there all day placing spawns, editing creature/item databases, ect.
She doesn't know any coding but I have little doubt that she can learn scripting, maybe LUA or something, and if there is any content creation tools or anything like that, she will sit there all day re-creating content, as she doesn't work or anything. She has been scared to get into it because she always feels like she wouldn't be any help because she cant program, but I keep trying to tell her that she could be of much help in a lot of other ways, especially with content creation, particularly with her VERY extensive knowledge of EQ2's content. Ive told her that Im sure the people who run the show there would probably answer her questions or even give her advice as to what needs done and how to go about getting it done. Im sure the same would apply to that here as well.

Re: Looking into helping out..
Yes, I'm setting up Content Design for VGO the same way I did for EQ2Emu, the tools are almost identical. The process may be a little different, only because the games are slightly different (from a spawn placement standpoint). But the good news about placing spawns, in either project, we do that for you. All you have to do is say "Spawn_01, go." and it goes.
All the content designer has to do from there is make sure what they sent to the world looks like it's supposed to. Data for VGO is much simpler (and oddly reliable) than EQ2's packets so EQ2 always took a lot more work setting up a zone. But VGO, the packets were so barbaric, we pretty much either got all the data, or we got none
You guys decide, we'll take help on either team. VG is where I'm focused right now because it's a lost game; otherwise I'd be working both myself.

Re: Looking into helping out..
well I imagine that VG might see a somewhat bigger user base as it is no longer live, where as EQ2, people can still play the live game, for free at that (if you wanna call it that lol). Personally myself, while I think both games are worthy of emulation, VG is my love, where as EQ2 is hers. But I know my girl, and she will provide help where ever her help is needed. Do you guys have content creation people on either project that would help her learn how to get going, answer her questions, things of that nature? She is a quick learner when she gets into things.
She has done a lot of content creation for The Sims games which is obviously a whole different monster, but if she is kinda shown the basics and has people she can ask questions of she will sit there all day ripping out content heh.

Re: Looking into helping out..
Yep, Jabantiz at EQ2Emu is holding down the fort, teaching new people the ropes for content. Posting over there would be the first step to getting started.
As far as VG content, we're not ready yet for that. I have a good size team standing in the wings while we muttle through these bugs and crashes. Can't do anything if the world won't stay up. Foof has some new code coming for spawns, and once that's in place and stable, we'll start placing spawns "for real" (the stuff in New Telon now is just for testing).
