After much deliberation, Xinux and I agreed that it is time we officially support the downloadable clients found on the internet for VG. I have updated the Player Guide[/url:3vfbtvtd] on the Wiki, along with adding a new page on Acquiring the Client[/url:3vfbtvtd] - there are enough people asking quite often for the download link, and rather than have Xinux keep updating people individually, I'm posting a few links to make that easier for our players.

There is a possibility that SOE will smack us hard with the Legal Mallet, but we're hoping they play ignorant and just leave us alone. We're not stealing money from them, and not supporting alterations either... so really, what's the harm in offering a download for what was once "free to play" anyway? We shall see.

To make it harder for the bots, I'll just let you find the info yourself on our wiki Merry Christmas, and happy playing!

John, this is a good move in my opinion, we can always say sorry and stop supporting it if SOE raises the legal mallet, as you said, it's not like we're selling it or gaining any benefit from it and it had a free to play option at the time that SOE sunsetted the game. We are just continuing to "share" a free client that they stopped sharing.

This will help many people though, thank you

You could do the same thing that SWGEmu does, and simply "officially" require that a player owns a physical copy of the game (or has proof of purchase for a legit digital copy), thus proving you are a good citizen of the internet bu discouraging piracy (but you do not actually have to check for compliance)

I would wager a LOT of us actually are legit copy owners anyway (Collector's Edition owner myself) and anyone who ever had a VG account after the game went F2P is also a "legit" owner of the client. (seems it would be hard to prove someone "stole" something being given away, given the only requirement to D/L was that one had a Station account, which we also all probably still have)
