Our current installations

What is the opinion, or suggestion as to what we should do with our current VG installation (folders). Just move it for now? I don't want to mess anything up for when we are able to assist with this project.

I choose to back up the entire installation folder as a precaution. IIRC we were able to originally install the client, and if we were moving the installation from another computer pull the files across, launch the game, and it would sync up. But I also remember when they released the new Launchpad, that we had to do a fresh install in most cases, I might be foggy on that part. I did go install crazy night before sunset, and installed the game on as many computers/laptops as I could get my hands on, not to mention replicating it onto externals and USB's

We'll find out how this works as I am doing a new PC build relatively soon. Possibly this weekend. If not, with in the next two months (after 800 series is released). Depends on what the wife would like to do.

I had completely removed the whole VG installation during sunset (too sad at the time) but when I got a new copy of the client I just plopped it where ever and pointed the VGOE launcher to the bin folder and everything worked fine. Doesn't seem like it needs much in the way of registry hooks.

Sounds good. I swear it used to (couple years back) need a specific .dll file or a Direct X file.

Not needing a lot for the install makes sense and reflects my earlier experiences about just needing files for new install, but still makes me crazy wondering what game it was that used to be like that, but needed an entire reinstall after a recent update.
Also just to test I might commandeer my wifes computer for "Testing" purposes, and use one of the replicated copies I made

Whenever I moved VG to other machines, I always just copied the whole folder and reinstalled DirectX. I never actually installed the program.

Currently, you can zip the entire Vanguard folder and move/store it as you please. Vanguard does not require an "installation process" (where reg keys are modified, files copied everywhere, etc). Vanguard only needs the files within it's folder.
It's exactly as Moldew states.

Question:
So right now the emulator will not work from a DVD installation? Is the emulator only available if I get an updated version of VG?
I don't have the patched version of VG saved anywhere. I'm wondering if I should order the DVD to install it.

The DVD install will not work they did a complete network code change which makes anything before that change unusable. I also just sent you a PM
