Thanks for the heads up. I will give everything a restart now. Give it a try again when you read this.

HI John.

This seems to be a consistent issue when trying to get my game server rubbing. (win version)

Char creates. But cant connect. Seems to be when another server is running at the same time. The launcher has trouble cnnctng?

all firewall etc checked , checked and rechecked.. tried several pcs and two ISPs.

Any ideas, is there a port issue on the launcher, or he login server at your end.. that it tries to ccnmt to wrong server?

Rgds

Here is my findings tonight while testing with Axis.

[00:55] <@Xinux> yup i need to test something tho
[00:55] <AxisStargazer> cool
[00:55] <AxisStargazer> but i cant get in from other pc here.. so i think this is someting to do with being on nsame router maybe
[00:56] <@Xinux> think i reconnected to quickly
[00:56] <AxisStargazer> but when yu just got in.. my bro did not get in
[00:57] <@Xinux> does he have multiple characters in his list?
[00:57] <AxisStargazer> yes he does
[00:57] <AxisStargazer> as i do
[00:58] <AxisStargazer> can they all be cleaned out at the launcher end?
[00:58] <@Xinux> yup that is a issue i'm seeing i can see your server but now i'm waiting on data for new telon for the guy i just created there
[00:59] <AxisStargazer> aha good.. to see im not going crazy
[00:59] <@Xinux> going to delete my guy on your server
[00:59] <AxisStargazer> ok
[00:59] <AxisStargazer> are yu abke to clear all mine out?
[00:59] <AxisStargazer> axis user
[00:59] <@Xinux> not at the moment
[00:59] <AxisStargazer> ok np
[01:00] <@Xinux> yup now i load new telon just fine

The issue seem's to be having multiple characters on different servers. When i first logged on i had a character from New Telon which loaded just fine then i created a character on Axis server and got waiting on data every time i logged in. I then deleted my character on New Telon and my character on Axis server loaded just fine. Then i created a character on New Telon again and got waiting on data deleted my guy on axis server and New Telon loaded fine after that.

HI More info from this.

After more testing tonight I have been able to get my self and my son in to my server at the same time.

The problem we were having seems to be that you cant run the server and a client on the same ISP connection.

BY connecting our PCS to a 3G personal hotspot on my iphone, and having the server running on my std cable connection, we could both connect successfully.

Must be something to do with the router routing the ports ?? Sending data to the server rather than the client, or vice versa?

Of course in practice the server would be on a sep external IP address . But thus might be useful info for would be server hosters.

Hope this helps.

Regards
Axis.

Same kind of issue when I tested with JImbo.. ie telon char and char on my server, not work at the same time..

This is great information guys. At least now we know what to chase after.

Zebulon, can you make sure you have no characters on New Telon when you are trying your own server? See if that at least lets you get into your own world while we work to fix this issue.

Axis, I run both login and New Telon from the same IP I am connecting from, so I don't think it's Client->World problems, I think it's Client->Login->World.

Hi - After Axis and I chatted last night (bro) I put his theory to the test but lo and behold I was able to run my server off one machine and client off another but both on the same home network (i.e different local addresses but the same external facing address) I was even then able to log two pc's in my house into the server. But it just seems to be inconsistent - as earlier Axis tried unsuccessfully to log into my server - and even when he was happily playing on his server I was not able to log into his. Could there be a UDP or TCP timeout issue (although the ping response to his server from my pc was 78msec - the ping response to the login server would have been a lot longer > 200msec from Aus)

Nah, I don't think latency is the issue here. I think timing is. I am here local to all the machines and when I close my client, and immediately launch back into the game, Login tells me it's waiting on New Telon - this is because the world has yet to fully disconnect me (30-40s timeout). We tried to lower that timer, and it caused issues with character creation - if you did not create your character fully within 10s you got flushed.

Still a lot more work to be done in this area, so keep sending the reports so we know what scenarios to try and handle.

John - have just pretty much confirmed what you said - I created a new char (I know I only have one now since you cleared all mine) Logged straight in after creation and it seemed fine. Logged out - then pretty much logged in again - and got waiting on data - server was hung at that stage. Restarted server - logged in client - no problems. Logged out - waiting until approx 60 secs after start of Chunk shutdown notice - got in fine. Repeated this (i.e waited until after chunk shutdown) - 5 times - each time got back in. Will narrow down timing further tonight - but I think if you stick to that rule - i.e 60 secs after chunk shutdown your fine - but if there are already people in that chunk when you logged out -- hmmm need further analysis .
