I wanted to share this with you fine folks.

As you may know the way Vanguard handles music is all dynamic. The game pieces together the right tracks at the right times, the way the designers wanted. It's not impossible, but time consuming, to mix all the tracks into a listenable form.

Well, a while back I was happy to find this (as well, at the time an 896 MB zip of the whole project).

Someone actually mixed the tracks together, and did a really good job at it!

I hope you all enjoy! All of the songs sound amazing, and really some memories of the game when I played some 4 years or so ago.

With this project underway, and an amazing soundtrack like this, the game is far from over.

I am not worthy! Really, one of the most immersive things about this game that set it apart from all the rest was this music!

As a composer myself, this music does give me chills. Game music (to me) is some of the most awe inspiring music there is. Movie scores have become predictable, and TV never even ranks (except perhaps Michael Giacchino - Lost, Fringe). The music from Halo, Mass Effect, Morrowwind, and Vanguard are probably my favorites - ever.

Edit: Love this one, with that super low growling voice effect.

I wrote a utility to directly browse/play/export Vanguard's music and sound files. It's not the most user friendly in the world, as it's kind of exposing things in the same form as they're stored are in the actual files, but it works pretty well: http://vg.neoclaw.net/vgmusic/

There's a lot more variations in the actual in-game music than is reasonable to capture in static files like those posted to youtube.

I'll have to give your app a shot. The ones on youtube are mixed pretty well from what I've heard.

Does your app capture the data from the game and rebuild them the way they're supposed to be exactly?

The app plays directly from the client assets of the game (the isb+icb file pairs). A lot of what I did was guesswork, but from what I can tell it seems correct. I'll probably make a pass through the code at some point to clean it up then release the source.

I am very impressed. The app you made is amazing.

It's so very simple, but powerful at the same time, and I love the extraction feature.

I knew we would one day be able to read those icb files for the proper sequences.

The "Text" front end (actually rendered with OpenGL+FreeType... sorry I'm a game dev, not a ui designer ) may be a little on the ghetto side, but it's simple and functional.

The ICB files actually follow the same format as the ISB files, they just contain different data types.
