I got a screenshot from a video from beta of a low level piece of equipment showing equipment expertise as well as the UI showing how much is used/left. Maybe with a few more pics we can find the formula used to determine expertise amount as well as whether or not they did away with the feature completely or if it something we can recreate through the data we send the client and UI XML file changes.

So this was Beta (pre-release)? The oldest client I have is the original DVD box set. I can take a look through the XML for "expertise".

I do remember it became sort of a problem on the pvp servers because rangers were equipping 100% bows with no other gear and 1 shotting people

Don't forget while standing inside a tree so people couldn't target them!

Haha, that's awesome. Users are the best at exposing poor implementations That must be why I never saw it. I don't think I played VG at release, just beta tested and came along around Feb 2007. To the best of my failing memory...

I believe Silius was the one who created the Equipment Expertise system. Some people have his skype so you could probably ask him.

There was a MASSIVE patch in very early August of 2012 (I believe the date was Aug 7, 2012...but I could be wrong on that.) Supporting anything prior to that, with the emulator being designed here, would be extremely challenging if not impossible.

The next major patch prior to that one was in late Sept. or early Oct. 2011.

All versions/patches of Vanguard have the possibility of changing things to a point at which the emulator being developed here would not work. However, I can assure you that these two patches, especially, would create a stumbling block of epic proportions.

But, yea, if you have a favorite version of Vanguard since September of 2012, you might be able to use it without "too" much grief ("too" being relative to your ability level.)

There's a few problems in the current live version that I see as game breaking and would prefer to not see in the emulator.

Do I have to say more then "monks"? They are so broken that they render every tank and most other dps obsolete in almost every fight but a select few. The patch with "best buffs only" and removed stat cap made them god like.

Gear from Syranoth in Stiirhad. That mob drops vastly overpowered gear and it just takes two people to farm him. A full 18 people raid kills him in only 10 seconds.

I completely agree but the reason for them being OP is the Devs just opening up Stirhaad for sunset and not fixing the stack/refresh/haste bugs, so you can stack Psi gem to make it so there is basically no global cooldown or refresh for all abilities, so the Monks just cycle their huge burst Dps macros with damage pots/clickies/QJ etc. (Monks have the biggest melee burst in the game so this is why they are so OP and broken at the moment, being able to use it without restrictions basically).

I also agree that the BBO (Best Buff Only)/LS (Lorestone) changes are OP and unbalanced the game in a big way and I think down the track when John and the team have a stable version of VG running, fully populated and open to the public for beta testing, they can make necessary changes and balance the game further, as can players who choose to run their own servers, since the data will be made public.

I wouldn't worry too much about that at the moment though, there is a lot of work to do between now and when the game will be at a beta state, which is most likely when those balances and changes will be discussed
