Bug 107: (Lokked) Cannot remove a PC from target...
Bug ID : 107 - Cannot remove a PC from target... Bug Date : 2015/01/15 10:12:01 Assigned To : Lokked Priority : High Category : VGClient Sub-Category : Gameplay: Other Severity : Standard Reproducible : Every timeDetails:
Cannot remove a PC from target.
1. Target a PC
2. Run out of range
3. ESC will not untarget the PC
Using this trick, I was able to summon someone across the zone.
Originated From World: New Telon (1) Chunk : Lomshir (68) Location : 9896 -8901 7433
Re: Bug 107: (Lokked) Cannot remove a PC from target...
I think the real issue was that I was not able to untarget the PC using ESC. Summoning across the chunk was just a side effect.

Edit: I need to rethink.

Well done finding this. The PC's have to be pretty far apart before it is no longer possible to remove the offensive target by pressing Escape. I rather think the bug is that escape cease to work, since I think you should be able to keep your defensive target until you change chunk or log out. Will have to analyse it before I can say for sure though.
For me this will be on low priority, due to it will require time for analyzing logs and I don't have much of that kind of time for the next month(s). But it is defo a bug that should be solved.
About the comment that it was a trick to summon someone across the zone I am not sure what you mean here. Summon is a gm command and I suppose they may want to summon across the chunk? Else I think you need to fix that behaviour by adding a range check in the code for the command.

Re: Bug 107: (Lokked) Cannot remove a PC from target...
Summoning non-targets just got implemented, Volt. I think Xinux just made .summon {name} function, and across chunks. Back when this was a bug, I don't think it was (logically) possible because if you didn't have someone already targeted, you could not .summon (or .goto). Both are fixed.
As for this bug, I pushed it to the forum only because Xinux and I were just discussing when things should be auto-untargeted. Live did a horrible job, and left mobs targeted in my UI even if I flew 16 chunks away. I asked him to make OUR code better, not live-like in this case. Let's find a range that makes sense, maybe make a rule for it, and when the player exceeds that range, the targets (all types) get the clear packet. Or however it works.

The client not untargeting a player is probably due to group mechanics which allow summoning within dungeons of someone in your group. You need to be able to target someone to summon them from the start of dungeon to your current location. I believe the server should force untarget a player not in your group after a certain distance away, but a grouped player can still remain targeted.
They esc key issue may be a problem for groups though. Was there a UI option for sticky targetting?

Good point that you could target people in your group using the F1-F6 keys. However, group mechanics aren't in yet. If you get sticky, you can always just target someone else, including yourself. I don't remember any other way to untarget beside the ESC key (or run away) - at least, that's what I always used.

Aye John I am too aware of those issues on when chunking on live. I still believe we should aim for allowing a player keep its defensive target throughout the chunk though. There is the summoning aspect and also iirc some custom UI s show a compass also for your OT which is very helpful when you want to find your friend. IF we can fix our "escape isnt working after a certain range" issue.

That would be nice to keep target across chunks for the compass feature. However, I don't know that would ever be practical - you were never able to summon across chunks anyhow. If you were in group/raid, you could at least see them on your map though.
