It sounds like to me that we didn't get the old buffs, before the BBO system, so we might be stuck with it.

The alternative is to keep the buffs as they are, except don't do the BBO thing. Let all the buffs stack. If they did raise some of the buffs, such as HP, other stats, etc) then we would have to lower them to something more like pre-BBO levels (Which I don't think we have the records of it).

I can't say what the devs will decide, or what options they really have. But If anyone can get the info on the old system (Specifically the stats), that would be great.

I may have them. I have a bunch of old sites backed up like The Telon Project. I'm 99% sure I don't have all of the site(s), but the majority of them. I couldn't seem to get the program to stop going off to other sites that were linked to and backing them up as well.

I have 15GB of data from websites that include:
Angry Goblins
Random Official Forum Posts
MMODB Vanguard
Silky Venom
Telon Adventures
Telonica
The Telon Project
Xandu

If John has a place where I can *try* uploading these to, I will do so.

I have no problem letting all the buffs stack. Toning down the numbers won't be a big deal either. If we can find the original buffs to get an idea how to scale them, thats fine, otherwise, we can fine tune based on our own ideas.

It will definitely allow me to rip out some painful BBO code from the server though!

As to the responses about "All-in-One" buffs, I've already shown we can create custom VGOriginal spells and abilities that work, so I have no problem keeping the nice parts of a system people otherwise hated or had no opinion of either way.

It's kind of a two-part thing.

"All-in-one" existed for most of the game's lifespan, inasmuch as it was only the top level buff, which you could only earn by high level adventuring.

They basically dropped it down into all low level ranges, so instead of 3-5 separate spells, you only had one to cast, onto which they added "BBO stacking rules". A few things would still operate outside of "BBO stacking"; it chiefly applied to your new all-in-one which you could automatically learn with no special effort.

So it looks like two subjects--one being "any given set of stacking rules", the other being the neatness/convenience of there being one spell in place of several. I'm more a fan of say a defensive buff that increases at levels 12/24/36, and an offensive one that increases at 18/36/48, and I like everything to stack unless it's something exceptional which says "This does not stack". For those reasons, I didn't see any nice parts about BBO; of course, others may not see it the same way.

As they were, at the high end, VG buffs practically doubled a character's power. Once the server is fleshed out and APW launches, we should probably be able to run (at least most of it) without it feeling mandatory of there being a 50 of every possible class with every possible spell to buff us. If you're missing a bear shaman or druid or whatever, that should only be a "no-go" for a tiny handful of things. Logging alts for every possible buff plus making an eight city diplo run is kinda heavy.

With customization, you could, I suppose, create an all-in-one for which the components increase at different levels; however, in this poll as with most things I've seen, the community seems to lean more towards 2k10 than the final version of the game. I'd personally rather have customization used for things further down the road where you fill in the high level dungeons and raids that SOE never did.

John, I feel encouraged by both of your comments. I think that allowing all buffs to stack and then tweaking them as necessary to balance power is a nice idea.

I have the original Psion abilities on my site (with their pre-noobie area revamp levels). I never got around to the others though.

Personally I preferred the way it was before. It seemed much simpler to me. One thing that we would need to change though is that the BBO system added post 50 resists to the buffs, that would need to be added back either to the old buffs or via new buff spells.

Edit, I also preferred the old way of having multiple buffs abilities and then you got your combined one via the APW raid quest. I really don't like gimmies.

The Best Buff is acceptable if it worked only within their tree (or class).
So a buff from one class wouldn't overwrite the buffs from another class.
That way we get the benefit of the best buff given to us (for our level) and not have the game mix up buffs between classes.
I don't mind having 20 or 100 buffs on my screen (and off-screen ) as long as I am getting them all.
