I'm with Cyrcle for the most part. I think most of you know I'm crazy for the core game or rather the promise of what the core game was eventually going to be grown into. But I also see the logic behind maintaining all the extra work etc. that had gone into the game post 51+

As it stands Horizontal progression at 50 is fine, most if not all of the content can be altered to fit into that frame. I mean if you look at sunset, the Dev.'s were in the process of changing sub 51 content INTO 51+ content, and the golden path that eliminated removed and revamped so much fantastic low and mid game stuff just for the sake of enticing new players. I think the point is , we can have meaningful content up to 50, that includes the raids, spells and abilities that came from 51+ without tacking on fluff levels, you guys are coding now anyways, maybe we can tweak down costs, effects etc. down to 50, I'm not sure.

I love the idea of private servers, for the simple fact that it Does give the option to change, alter or address situations like the above without stepping on a large amount of toes. As for dilution of the player base, I think that's a non starter, Most people will play with the main server regardless of private alternate rule servers, but you will always have a niche that either would have been playing very little on whatever main server exists or not at all (PVP'ers Etc.) if it doesn't fit in with what they are looking for. This still gives them the option of playing VG, and IMO at the end of the day I think that's the point, getting people to play VG, allowing for the experience and feelings that VG evokes to live on.

Personally I would run a private server in a heartbeat if given the option, but I will always maintain a character and presence on the main server as well, because community (VG's in particular) means so much to me.

All of this aside, The fact that we can even have this conversation is only possible thanks to everything you guys are doing, and for that I can't express enough gratitude.

Also yes please, make Kilsin grind, I think it'll keep him in touch with his feelings

You just gave me a great idea. Since Volt almost has "Movers" working, I think I'll have the team code up some LUA that every time a drop for Kilsin drops, the loot will slide away from his cursor just out of reach.

Custom servers = ways to torment your players

This is the kind of stuff I come up with, you can't use it against me, damnit! lol

I suffered enough through 7 years of VG, I would rather not emulate that part of my experience.

Well, I see a couple of scenarios where multiple servers would be used. First is obviously pvp. There was a pretty vocal contingent of pvp Vanguard players who wanted a server.

Also a situation like the EQ titan server in eq emulator. There were a bunch of multi-boxers who felt they were getting the scorn of other players because of lag issues and there was always the threat of multi-boxing being banned. So someone made their own server along with several changes that made multi-bosing easier on their server (group portals via command around pok) and a lot of them went to that server. There could be many reasons why certain factions of people may wish to start their own server.

rottstein, very good points. PvP is something I haven't even begun to consider here, since only a few people really talked about VG PvP (in a hateful way), but of course it is in the roadmap, if we can get enough people to define it for us.

As for the custom code, while I saw almost NONE of this in EQ2Emu's entire lifespan (almost 8 years now), you may be right on that; that down the road, when VGOEmulator is "as playable" as an EQEmu, people might be more apt to grab the code and do some customizations. I hadn't thought that far ahead, but that's a great point.

So, what I'm doing is not in vain then Thank you.

My "vision" if you will, would be to restore Vanguard:Saga of Heroes to it's multi-server, iPVP concepts from the original Beta and days of release, where we had leaderboards across multiple servers to build a massive community. I just kinda wonder in this day of there being 200 MMO options, if that's a realistic dream?

Thoughts?[/quote]

Unfortunately I don't think the primary world server is going to suffice for what I'm looking for. I'm only interested in playing a particular version of VG that existed in a bug-ridden form for only a very short while in Beta 4 and not actually that version: rather a "fixed" version of that version. So to the best of my ability (and classes permitting) once the Server setup is stable, I'm going to work to get that version going:

Back when Weapons had Equipment Expertise, XP was slow enough that it was worth it to spend a week to work on a long weapon quest in your teens and that level 10 horse was a major accomplishment.

I hear you tad10, that's what I'm getting on about. The game was great, and although it was my home even after all the gutting and changes that occurred, I remember it most fondly for what it began as (bugs, wrinkles and all) and the promise of what it was supposed to be

Also, regarding the movers that would be so hilarious
But Karma is a patient and vindictive mistress, and I shudder to think of what sort of payback fate would have in store for me If I ever came out on board of that level of Kilsin torment
