Private/Custom Server question

Looking at the EQemulator server list, I had a question pop into my head; The Vanguard Player Community was so used to there being ONE server to play on, I am curious how many Private servers do you see popping up over the years to come?
Note I said just "Private" for the first part of this question. This would mean quite literally, exactly the same content and data as New Telon (or whatever the name of our release server is) here. I can see people downloading the code and tossing up a server to trounce around for a few days, then getting bored and never starting it again, and playing on our main server.
Then there's the other question, which pertains more to the EQ/Project99 type servers. What are the odds anyone will take our code, modify it, spend the ENORMOUS amount of time to customize content globally... to offer a different gaming experience based on Vanguard?
The reason I ask these things -- and honestly do not expect hard-fact answers, only speculation -- is because the team is spending a ton of time trying to get the VGClient to communicate with more than 1 World Server (New Telon, Private servers, Custom servers all attached to our LoginServer hub). It seems a wasted effort if the majority (90%) of the community will just play the game on 1 server, again.
My "vision" if you will, would be to restore Vanguard:Saga of Heroes to it's multi-server, iPVP concepts from the original Beta and days of release, where we had leaderboards across multiple servers to build a massive community. I just kinda wonder in this day of there being 200 MMO options, if that's a realistic dream?
Thoughts?
