Private/Custom Server question

Re: Private/Custom Server question
@Cyrcle, I never implied that you wanted it gone mate, I just wanted to mention that even with it's faults, I wanted it to stay and explained why.
You most definitely could not do PotA in swamp. The Devs were not in touch with the community at all nor did many of them even play the game properly.
Reverence was the first guild into PotA and we got wrecked in Full APW with set bonuses and overland raid gear (some of the higher end stuff too) it was tough going. It is kind of like saying a full group of swamp vs Akande the Butcher in his hardest form...(which I soloed and and duoed with a NEcro friend for a server first which pissed of Silius btw..lol) it was never going to end well no matter how skilled the group was. You needed gear and skilled members.
51-55 was tweaked later and included an OT revamp down below the church, which was pretty fun but way too late, that should of happened back when the level cap increase went ahead. So at the end the exp gain from OT was pretty huge and you could completely skip SoD if you wanted too.
The itemisation was just before Free to Play, they did a massive sweep of all items to try and change the colour code so a lot of it could be included in the Free to Play gear restrictions but in doing so they messed the colours and the stats up on literally thousands of items, to the point that level 55 high end raid geared players with epics, full T3 PotA and some of the best overland drops you could get were giving up those hard fought items to replace them with level 30+ orange drops from named and trash mobs in level 30-40 area's, it was ridiculous.
We became so overpowered that people were soloing/duoing/trioing some raid mobs, I was able to 4-6 box a few myself, it was completely over the top and in my opinion, ruined the game and it's balance completely, all to try and funnel more money into the cash shop and subscription model to allow people to unlock those items and be allowed to wear them, kind of like teasing the free players with uber stuff while the max level vets used it to our advantage to become godlike.
All that stuff needs to go, crit strike stats, strike though stats all need to be removed from those items below 51.
Other than that, I'll probably be on the official server. I just really don't look forward to starting over with my toons >.<
I don't think I'll make another rogue. I put my heart and soul into my rogue "Jakkal" on the live game, and it just kills me to think about trying to get all that stuff for her again.
As a main rogue for 4 years, I do intend to restore some of the fun to leveling a rogue, at least in the late game. We can make blackjack, darts, stealth, etc... work on those mobs again. I had so much fun leveling my rogue up 1-50 through CW, ToT, Nusibe, Rhaz, but I really didn't enjoy playing him in the post-50 game. I'm pretty sure we will be rebalancing a bunch of the class abilities that SOE nerfed (i.e. necro death touch, sorc chaos volley).
As for me, I'll probably play a different class altogether. I may make another necro (I got into mine a lot at the end), or even a cleric this time.
Once the systems are in place, building the content will be a labor of love, but so fun! I can't wait to see this game return to life.
One thing is for certain though. I'm going to put special code in to make sure Kilsin needs another 4 years to get a Jharuu Blade of Sacrifice!

Oh man, please don't! lol
I was all sentimental and thinking to myself that restarting my Rogue could be fun while reading your post until I got to that last part and literally glared at the screen in disgust for that RNG, I know for a fact that the JBoS was not even in the game when they said it was (Silius said it dropped from SoD and Troll Coast) and when they did put it in (like 18 months - 2 years later) the drop chance was so low it probably didn't even register in the engine until it was tweaked to be 0.00002% and then raised to something stupid like 10-15% towards the end when they dropped like candy.
Will we be able to multi box on the official server with multiple accounts?
I guess this will answer my question of whether or not I will restart my Rogue, since playing in the Australian time zone will most likely be a ghost town.

haha mate, your posts are so vivid, I can literally see your face when you speak Faux is right, and I wanted to clarify/correct my earlier statement; VGOEmulator WILL try and fix a lot of things "the community" thinks was wronged by SOE. If that includes a rebalance, just know that will take an enormous amount of time, because balancing items for classes, and balancing class functionality, is a no-win situation for ANY dev team. Someone will always hate whatever you do, which is why my >initial< goal for this team is to duplicate the world SOE left us with... then work backwards from there.
Know that this dev team listens to it's community We'll do our best. But I can promise, someone will hate what we do, too.

I know you will do your best mate, you have done an awesome job and so have the other team members! I know itemisation is going to be a huge pain in the ass for everyone involved and it will be a labour of love over a long time, so I know there is no need to rush, I want to see VG alive and functioning again before anything else!
Screw the haters, they can make their own server!

Re: Private/Custom Server question
Speaking of Items, not sure if I shared this yet (it may not be 100% complete) but I have "exploded" all item details for review over at vgoplayers.com's Items list. Eventually, items will be editable in our DB Editor (soon(tm)) so the more people we have looking over our 35,000 items, the sooner we can "fix" them
Re: Private/Custom Server question
The JBOS really needs to be on a raid mob like Kotasoth, Karax or Shendu. Not a random stupid drop on the BOD. I was so happy the day I got it. I farmed religiously in TC, SOD, and then BOD when I heard it might be in those zones, from 2009 to 2012, I farmed for the stupid thing.
Kilsin, I think you and I need to dig up those old threads in regards to rogue changes that we wanted, that they totally screwed up on the revamp.

Re: Private/Custom Server question
I hope this project does not end up like the daoc emulator. Many servers, not one is contributing to rebuild a global content datadabase, but keep everything on there server to be the best server from many. Content differs greatly between the servers .
Or look at all the lineage II servers, one worse then the other, corrupt admins, many unprofesionaly hosted on your ordinary windows xp 'server'.
Id rather see this project locked down until the world is rebuild. Then let the masses loose and create servers which most die off shortly after anyway, because maintaining a stable service is alot of work daily log reading, keep track of security bulletins/mlist, network/file monitoring.

Yeah I was the same, I can't even put a number the the amount of hours I farmed for that dagger, even when it didn't exist but it was a lot. That sounds like a plan Jak

Re: Private/Custom Server question
falloutdc, great points, and exactly where I am coming from with my original question. I am personally putting a TON of effort into making multiple servers work, but in reality I truly only see the official VGOEmulator Server as being the long-term server. No one truly understands the amount of effort that goes into customizing a world database; except those of us who have already done so.
As for bad servers with corrupt admins, well that's the players fault for playing on such a server The safest place to be: New Telon <3
