Race/Class Selection
Not sure if this has been covered but here is a list of classes and what races they were able to be.
I actually prefer being able to use any race with any class, although I'm not sure if it causes balance issues. Here is the original set up.

Re: Race/Class Selection
Good question, will see, I would vote for the original state...
Re: Race/Class Selection
We can't edit the client, and the class/race selection is something the client does. So it'll stay with all races/all classes.
Re: Race/Class Selection
I'm not a big fan of the restrictions. For one, vanguard's tagline was "play it your way" which you can't do with race/class restrictions. But really, there's no reason all races can't be all classes. I know people make the case for monks, discs and clerics, but that doesn't mean that your character might not have left their comfort zone to become something that is not normal for their species.
But from a perspective outside of game lore, the original devs made the classes WAY too limiting for some of the races. The way it worked was that it forced a lot of people to make human characters - which added to the lack of population in some of the starter towns. For example, there were only /four/ classes that you could play if you wanted to be a Lesser Giant. TWO of them are tanks (Warrior and DK). If you already had a tank you might only have two other options: Shaman and Druid. What if you already had one of those elsewhere? And who wants to have two druid characters? So people just .. didn't play Lesser Giants. And you might ask "Well why does that matter?" Well it does if you want to play a particular race, but also each race has their own diplomacy line that brings about the lore of the race that you might want to follow. There's a lot of reasons a player might want to play a race but when you reduce their options to so significantly few, people overlook them. And you don't want anyone to overlook your hard work.
Or especially reduce the number of people in a starter area, that's for sure. So you've got humans all over the place because humans can be damn near anything, but the more interesting, exotic races get shafted so no one plays them.

Re: Race/Class Selection
Absolutely correct! Giving more freedom to players is just step forward. Especially for me, since I love to play for dwarves!
Re: Race/Class Selection
Could maybe make un-preferred races more appealing like they did in old EQ. trolls were ugly but had regen and ogres scratched their butts all the time but had hella stamina. so at end game an ogre war or a troll SK could raid tank with fewer chain heals. ogres had something like 12K extra health at end game if I remember right. if you could do something like that to half ogres to make them the highest HP warrior or SK at end game, it would make them easier to choose for a main character. dark elf SK would be better looking ... but a bit squishy compared to half ogre. both viable for raids but the half ogre easier to keep healed. not sure if maybe could do this through editing of starting stats or maybe would be easier to add a pair of half ogre racial rings that could add that to them. and maybe the stats on the ogre only rings level up with them to scale the stats properly at each level. I to would like a very diverse mix of characters running all around and not just a bunch of humans.
