Casting Interrupts
I thought someone mentioned this here somewhere, but I cannot find it (might have been VGOPlayers.com)
Did Vanguard have "Spell Interrupts"? Meaning, you're casting your Fry Moldew IX spell and it takes 5s to cast, and you bump your cursor and the spell gets canceled.
Or, you get hit by a stun from a Mob
Or any other means to interrupt your casting
And, can you (players) interrupt NPCs?
What I remember someone saying was how much they dislike interrupts
Edit: Found it! It was about moving while casting, not being interrupted
Also please tell me i'll be able to move while casting in Pantheon. After playing VG I just can't shake the "interupted!!!!!!" everytime I move an inch in every single other MMO.
So this means if I have a 30s cast time, I can be running my arse off while casting it? Summon my mount or boat while being chased? Where's the fun in that?
Might as well just ask Xinux now; I suppose there's an opcode for all the above? heh

Re: Casting Interrupts
Oh god, please let us continue torun and cast. I loved kiting!
But basically spells could get interrupted if you get hit too many times, or if you get stunned/mezzed/etc. Sometimes while you're casting, you'll see the cast bar moving, and if you get hit, it'll get knocked back. If it does that enough, it'll get interrupted.
But moving didn't cause you to interrupt a spell unless it specifically said that (I don't think there were any in the game, but I didn't play all the casters to 55 either).

Re: Casting Interrupts
You would slow down while casting, so you could still move but not at full speed.
It was not possible to summon mounts or boats while in combat, but you could do it while moving.

Yes, this was the case with any spell that required a cast time as Kandra said. Any instant cast or DoT (Damage over Time) spells did not slow you down.
As Jak said it was a roll of the dice if a hit interrupted you while casting, the cast bar would actually move backwards if hit and it did that for around 2-3 times before your cast would be cancelled and you would need to start casting again.
Moving cursor would not have any effect on casting unless you clicked a cancel ability macro or closed the client
Moving had no impact on ability to cast, kiting was a big part of VG.
Stuns/Mezzes would cancel your cast if it landed on you.

Re: Casting Interrupts
I recall turning the opposite direction also canceled casting due to no line of sight. The Esc key canceled as well, of course.
Jumping while casting would not cancel, for those that like to jump (me).

Re: Casting Interrupts
Facing the wrong direction would result in a failed. or cannot do that or whatever the message was.
When you were casting you couldn't cast anything else. Only 1 cast a time. Everything in VG was a /cast. Autoattacks, melee etc. So if you were casting Fireball V you couldn't "cast" summon mount. or whatever else. Although with Fire pummel you could still use /reactionchain's while charging, but that ability was bugged all to hell anyways.
You got slowed down to /walking speed when you were casting. What I love about VG was that character movement seems to have momentum whereas in other games if I run and jump I pretty much fall almost straight down. This helped a lot in kiting because if you were running fast enough and hit a spell that had a long cast time you could alleviate a lot of the slow down by timing a jump. So for the 1 second or so while in the air and casting you were still moving sorta full speed. Run forward, cast 1 second spell, jump, look back, spell fires, face forward again, land, and continue kiting. 0 movement slowdown.
After doing that for 7 years in VG it's almost impossible to play any game where if I breath heavy on my mouse I get interrupted.
And as others have stated there was some spell pushback(I guess thats what its called) and sometimes you couldn't cast while being hit.

Re: Casting Interrupts
I also liked how if you cast lev on yourself, you could back up at near normal run speed, which also made kiting easier in a lot of instances.

I think the main reason I never used Levitate while kiting was due leashing mobs from Z-axis. Speaking of which. Is that something that is fixable?

Good god, you really kited that way, having to turn around? As a DK, I definitely never kited in VG so I never experienced this. I am familiar with the insta /cast stuff, though that always baffled me about Vanguard as a game - hearing my UI groan in agony as 7 things all tried to cast at once. I finally got used to it, and realize that is actually a "mechanic" that would ruin the game if it were "fixed"... so I'm leaving that one alone

Leashing? Or the Z-Axis? If we do not add Leashing, I suppose that solves it entirely.
Thanks for the info. This is exactly the kind of discussions we'll need to refer to down the road to add this functionality. Anyone who thinks of anything else, please post a topic and put your knowledge down for us to use later. I'll keep asking questions as they come up.

Speaking of levi, i always thought levi felt kinda weird like on ice skating ring. I recall it being a different system before but its been a while and dont remember why it was changed.
