Content from 10-40ish

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I'd found it quite tiresome having to create alts in order to experience the hordes of content this game had to offer simply because I had out-leveled everything after completing one other area.
When VG was first released, it was a bit more difficult to level up than at the end (not sure if this was due to the experience curve or the mob difficulty), but I'm of the opinion that it could have been even more difficult in both aspects; I'm more directing this suggesting toward group content rather than solo content.
I like this as it promotes grouping etc. and will also encourage players to take part in all/more area's than just the nearest hotspot.

In addition to this, another "out there" suggestion would be to have a "raid/event" type mob per quest area that would be restricted to a certain level range (ie. 30-35). This would require a larger than standard group size to defeat and should each be kitted out with an appropriate loot table. Wouldn't this make for a nice way to end off a quest area and also provide nice practice to late game raiding? An example of what sparked this idea is the level 40 x 6 dot boss in karrus hakrel (if memory serves) which was very tough for a standard group and had enough space in his area to allow for a mini raid party. Another example would be the last event in chrysol mines, or even the level 25 event in the very first pantheon?

All awesome, all memorable and all could have done with some improvement and additional time to experience everything with one char in place of having to create 20 =D

I have a thousand idea's for the server, but 90% of the rest is less feasible than the above... let me know what you fella's think

One of the good things about VG, when it was released, was the difficulty of mobs and the amount of time it took to gain experience and level up. It was quite a steep leveling curve and I liked that a lot, slower progression that enabled you to see more of the world and it also promoted player interaction, which is what all MMORPGs are supposed to be about.

VGs world is massive though and content wise from level 1-50, it would take you a couple of characters to see it all even with a steep leveling curve and that is what made VG so special for many of us, having such a big open world like that and giving us an ability to turn our exp off at any time to stop and enjoy it if we wanted too.

These are good suggestions for private servers if you find enough people to share in your vision of changing VG topsoil, have you thought about creating one yourself?

Personally though, I like the original VG from 1-50 before the level cap changes (among other things) made things too easy.

One of my favourite things about VG was the fact that there were so many paths you could take. There was so much content so it made leveling alts a lot more fun than most other games because you're not doing the exact same content over and over.

I do like the idea of having large group encounters throughout the leveling experience though. It was one of the things I thought EQ2 did right (raiding wasn't just an "end-game" thing).

I loved VG when there was KOS faction clashes - I remember sneaking into the KHAL crafting hall with a Dark Elf and how difficult it was to get a balance of Factions points - to allow entry to various towns. When we do get to be able to have NPC's attacking us - I'll be setting up my world to replicate this is some way.

That is awesome to hear Jimbo, I will definitely have at least one character on your server, I think we share very similar memories and taste in what made VG so good

We have factions... and they want to attack you (just rift to the various cities, at least on my server)! The problem is that the gods won't let them.

That or the gods have gifted them with unbelievable amounts of restraint.

The time will come when they will snap.

Agreed!!
So much to see and do, out of the way quests you sort of stumble upon, and nooks and crannies to explore. I hated the whole golden path thing SOE implemented, as it just killed off so much interest in exploring the world for a lot of new people. No reason to go to Coastal graveyard, or Northern Highlands, its not part of the "Experience" they were pushing.

This is what I like about the old school MMOs in general, specifically (classic + Kunark) Everquest. There are quite a few different places to experience as you level up, and even leveling up 2 or 3 characters, you still may not have experienced all the different places available for your level range. I leveled 3 characters from 1 to 60 and has NEVER been to Unrest (a very popular zone for the late teens / 20s). Now, with P99, I have been there. I hope this Emulator gives people that same "new" experience.

Good ideas all around. I also like content that is challenging, but sometimes I am torn because I don't have as much time to play as I used to when I was younger, so group content can be hard to deal with. Think EQ1 before they made it faceroll playable when you would stand around screaming LFG or trying to get guildies talked into exploring someplace out of the way (Nagina on the RP server in the first year was a corpse eater!). VG did give a nice variety of content and quests. Coastal Graveyard and Northern Highlands were some of my favorite places to hunt in game. I've always been curious about the faction part of the game but not sure if I would love or hate it (as a crafter, as far as PVE it makes perfect sense). Would like to try it though.
