Borestones / Flying Mounts / Ships

heya Telonians,

there has been a patch, announced as intended to make people explore the world more... in fact, inserting those stupid lorestones (or borestones, as I called them) was just quite annoying. The buffs you got by collecting them all was completely overpowered, so anyone that wanted to raid was forced to collect the stones. But the fact, that the stones spawned randomely for 10 minutes only and that only about every 30-45 minutes or so made you wait and wait and wait and wait... when i log in i want to play, not wait =P
I'm ok with any things, that make you go out and see how beautiful telon is, but you won't see it, if you have to stay at the same position for about 45 minutes
So: Better leave the stones out completely or if you intend to insert them, please change something about it =)

And next: Please don't insert lvl1 tradeable flying mounts... you have to do something to owe a flying mount. It was a facepalm to players that did flying mount quests.

Same with Soe inserting ships into their store... you had to harvest a long time to get the materials for a ship, you had to do the questline and you had to craft and hope you won't mess up something. To have the ship completed was just AMAZING =D You should't be able to get a ship by just paying... Well don't think there will be a store in the emu, but please keep in mind that things like ships, houses, flying mounts have to be something special you need to work for...

And it would be really cool if you would insert chests on ships or make it possible to place furniture on the boats (afaik it was intended to realize that, but it was never released)

Well that's it for the moment, guess gonna add some more stuff in the future ... and yes I know it'll be a long time till stuff like that will be important, as you're in the very early steps of reconstructing the game, but still I'm very happy, that Telon lives =))

Greetings Mith

Mithnl, thanks for the input. I believe a majority of the players who truly loved Vanguard would be in agreement with you. We at VGO are not interested in making the world simple for newbs, because we're not here to make it easy. We're here to make it how the majority wants it, and so far, they seem to like the Original concepts of VG more than the last public option.

In that, I think camping lorestones is indeed silly. We can probably implement them as clickable items in game, but maybe make them questable, or put them on a merchant, or as random loot drops. Something easier.

Flying mounts at level 1? Yeah, that's BS. The griffon quest will likely be our first choice, only. (at least for some time). People seem to really like that quest line.

As for boats, we have no station store, nor will we ever. So the only way you'll get a boat/house in VGO is to build it. Someday

Ugh, the griffin quests. Those things were utter hell to get and all the equipment from those quests were hopelessly worthless asides from the griffins themselves.

I completely agree Mithni, the Lorestones were poorly thought out, over powered and pretty much helped to trivialise a ton of content, I would not be sad in the slightest to see them go away for good, I personally don't think they should be brought back in any form but that is just me, they were basically free stat boosters for no work involved and the game was unbalanced enough as it was without introducing more power.

A big problem for VG (and I wrote a few forum posts about this) was that we were allowed to get too powerful and as fun as it sounds, it ruined the game in many ways, it removed the challenge from a lot of things and made old content redundant, I hope we can correct that issue, this time around.

I hope we never see another cash shop item in VG and this includes all the crafting sphere breaking boats, houses, armour, furniture, weapons, clickies, equipped effects etc.

I would personally remove all the riftways and griffon, wyvern and pegasus rented mounts, which would make endgame flying mounts, ground mounts and boats have more meaning but I am not sure how many would agree with me on that after being spoiled by having them for years

Actually back when level 50 wad the cap, some of the Griffon armour/weapon rewards were quite nice and used by a lot of us

I pretty much stuck with masterwork 48+, helped crafters along with cash and ended up with far superior gear.

Yes indeed, they weren't easy... Akande the Butcher... omg =D

But after all that: Did you forget the feeling when you got your first griffon? It will never feel the same, if it's too easy =)

lvl 50, the sweet point in that game, the grind had meaning, the rewards rewarding, the world involved. That griff quest was outstanding, like the Shadow and unicorn, took you all over, and got people into places they may have never otherwise seen. Im all for that line, was epic, and the reward matched it!

Kilsin im with you 100%. Launch VG was perfect (barring the bugs and spawning 1000meters in the air when you crossed chunks) I remember how stoked I was when I could not only afford my first Camel Mount (they were hardly seen) but trekking out to the Island near the bunker to get it. Ships had meaning (diving for steeles in dragons backbone), as did the griffon when you got it, also the fact we got it at end game, made trivialising content a nonstarter.

I am talking before Masterwork gear my friend, the actual "good old days", when content was challenging, and like Mithni said, Akande in his hardest version was challenging in swamp/APW gear

Itemisation, lorestones, equipped effects, clickies and level cap raise to 55 with epics etc. destroyed all that old content that was fun, immersive and challenging, I hope to get that feeling back with this emulator, if not with the main server, hopefully with one of the others.
