Welp, it's been a long, long time staring at the original code created by Ramsey back in 2007 or so. I myself have had some success understanding things over the years, but when Xinux (from EQ2Emulator) started analyzing live game packets, things started to really make sense. He has a gift

My little buddy Scatman from EQ2Emulator was never really interested in Vanguard as a game, so for years of me asking him to help me start this project, he was not too interested because EQ2Emu was his first passion. I have since presented the challenge again to him, this time talking about just building the base core for *any* emulator, and his eyes lit up. Which is a good thing, because this guy can code.

So what does this all mean? It means that we're going to make a genuine attempt to build a server core around the VG:SOH game in the hopes it develops into a real emulator someday.

Our language of choice is again C++, and likely LUA when the scripting parts come along and of course a MySQL5 backend. Our code will run on Windows and NIX platforms, both x86 and x64. Standard stuff. Other than that, it's too early to tell.

Granted, development will not be high-paced, because we all have things to do. But we're going to try. Hope you get inspired to join us as well after we lay the initial foundation.

Looking over this "first post ever" on this site almost a year ago... I'm pleased how far we have come with what was once to be just a casual effort, become critical mission. We literally had 15 members on this site for months, until that fateful day on Jan 24th when the announcement came. We are currently at 242 members and still growing, with hundreds of topics and thousands of comments. To think, we're only just beginning

Thank you again to all who have participated in getting us farther than I had hoped in 2014. Wishing us continued success into our 2nd year.

Took long enough, but I just added a new link to the Portal under Project Info: Dev ChangeLog

This is an un-pretty list of our private development SVN entries as we are working on code. Since Public SVN doesn't get updated all the time, and some code is still hidden so SVN Logs there are not always forthcoming, I thought I'd add a truly transparent list of work being done for you to eye-bleed over.

Enjoy!

(PS: this is mostly for testers who want to know what to break next)
