Week 1: Progress!
All, As you know, the initial phases of this project are "underground" until we make a significant breakthrough (like getting client->server communicating). Here's a quick update so you know something is happening. I will likely only be posting these updates as significant goals are met, s...

Welcome to VGOEmulator.net!
Welp, it's been a long, long time staring at the original code created by Ramsey back in 2007 or so. I myself have had some success understanding things over the years, but when Xinux (from EQ2Emulator) started analyzing live game packets, things started to really make sense. He has a gift My little...

Re: Rumors and Myths?
[quote="kinshi"]I have to ask...WHY develop ANY MMO emulator in C++ these days because lack of C++ developers ensures that any MMO emulator based on C++ is going to move at a snail's pace and require a LOT more coding effort. Reality is these servers do NOT actually NEED all that 'performa...

Re: Rumors and Myths?
No sorry, I've been super busy with work and any spare time I have, I am trying to manage the EQ2Emulator project. I am looking a bit more into VGEmu this week and possibly the long weekend ahead. Reading another comment here though, I am curious to try my hand at C# and .Net as suggested. Might be ...

Re: Rumors and Myths?
Agreed. I don't think the official game is going away anytime soon (just announced going F2P) so thankfully we'll have time to try and build a collector and get some data to see about rolling the ball here. It will be slow going, but hopefully people will get interested and a real project will form.

Re: Rumors and Myths?
Hey Pilgrim. Sadly, things are so "just starting" Xinux and I are basically starting over with current VG packets trying to figure out even the beginning of things. Since neither of us are strong C++ developers, this might take some time but he's pretty good at analyzing packets. Stay tuned!

Re: Rumors and Myths?
So if I understand correctly, all this is done with just the client, and NO server/loginserver software?

Re: Rumors and Myths?
That is some cool info. I'd still love to see a VGSOHEmu start up. I don't think Ramsay is actually going to do anything with it, but if enough people became interested, I'd gladly start a project site to host it, or add some dev forums to this site til it got going.
Again, nice discovery work.

Re: Rumors and Myths?
Because it was Sigil initially, I am confident it's a from-scratch approach. Really what would be nice to start with is a data collector that is like the EQ2Emulator one. At least then, crypto is cracked and we could try different things to make a connection.
