Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Because I never, ever troll the interwebs for any reason... I didn't even know about Pantheon and Brad McQuaid I do love Brad's vision for gaming, but I wonder how this one will turn out? We all know how much I loved Vanguard, in concept... but that ended in utter disaster when Sigil sold out to SOE (understandably, but sad nonetheless).

Wonder of Brad & team can pull this off?

The way they are funding this project gives me little hope. Brad McQuaid is an AMAZING game designer and visionary. I'd follow his games to the end of the Earth and back! EverQuest and Vanguard are the only games I've ever had true love for and I believe it's all thanks to him. But, I am afraid that Pantheon will suffer the same fate as Vanguard did. Which is truly sad as I believe that it will be a great game with him behind it.

I try to steer clear of purchasing digital only games, so Pantheon is a no-go for me.

The great thing about having a physical edition is that

a) if the game goes belly up, there's still something to hold onto
b) if the game goes belly up and there's a freeshard, you can seed the original files even if you don't have the game installed anymore
c) installing it from DVD is just way quicker

I hope it works out. Brad's games are the only ones I like these days. I think Brad his teams have good intentions but the gaming climate sometimes doesn't recognize good talent the way it should. Hopefully resurrecting a game like VG will help show people how beautiful it is!

He won't be seeing a penny of my money until there's an actual product I can hold in my hands. Way too much drama so far.

I am also a mega fan of EQ1 and VG, but Brad McQ and the on and off again romance with SOE pisses me off to no end. I had a look at Pantheon a few months back and I have to admit I drooled, but I had to slap myself and remember who is behind this project. That guy is somewhat of a menace to himself. However, the word is that SOE is entertaining picking it up if he can generate enough interest in it and generate his own funding (hence kickstarter, no VG debacle repeats intended). It is supposed that VG was closed because of this new proposition. Brad jumped back into bed with SOE and they decided to kill off their love child. The real question is can they get along long enough to: 1) Pull it off all the way to launch? 2) If they decide to part ways (for a 3rd time) what happens to the game? I don't think I could take falling in love with another game to have it destroyed again like Vanguard was. If SOE picks it up I will never (ever to infinity) play it.
