Sony announced in early February that it plans to close Reader Store in the U.S. and Canada on March 20, 2014. Unless a customer chooses to not be included in the transfer process, Reader Store will transfer customers to Toronto-based eReading company Kobo--an admired eBook store and reading community. We strongly believe that this transition will allow customers to enjoy a continued high-quality e-reading experience.

No, there is no need to do anything now. Until the Reader Store is closed on March 20, 2014, you can continue to shop at the Reader Store and use your Reader device. In late March, you'll receive an email from Reader Store with instructions on how to transfer to Kobo.
As part of the transfer process, we will send you a link to enable you to transfer your Reader Store library and any Reader Store account credits to a Kobo account. If you do not use this link, your library transfer will not work.
You will be able to purchase eBooks from the Reader Store all the way up to March 20, 2014. However, we are no longer offering subscription services. EBooks purchased on the Reader Store up until the Reader Store is closed will be included in the transfer to Kobo. In late March, you will receive an email from Reader Store with instructions on how to transfer to Kobo.
In a few rare cases, eBooks purchased at Reader Store may not be available at Kobo. In this case it is recommended that you download a copy of these titles from Reader Store before April 30, 2014.
Yes. Whether or not you transfer to Kobo, you can download eBooks you previously purchased at Reader Store until April 30, 2014. However, if you transfer your eBook library to Kobo via the transfer link, you will continue to have access to your eBooks after this date.
In a few rare cases, eBooks purchased at Reader Store may not be available at Kobo for re-download. In these situations, it is recommended that you download a copy of these titles from Reader Store before April 30, 2014.

Your wishlist will no longer be available after March 20, 2014. Please make a note of your wishlist items prior to this date.
Highlights, bookmarks and annotations you made in your Reader Store eBooks will not be available after you transfer your library to Kobo. You can create new notes, highlights and bookmarks in the Kobo reading experience.

You can still use any credits you might have on your Reader Store account for purchases at Reader Store until March 20, 2014. If you transfer to Kobo before May 31, 2014, your unused credits will transfer with you, and you will be able to use your credits for future purchases at the Kobo Store.
You can still redeem your gift card at Reader Store and use the credits for purchases at Reader Store until March 20, 2014.

We are ending our subscription service and are cancelling all subscription renewals. You can still re-download available editions you purchased through April 30, 2014. Your magazines and newspapers will not transfer to Kobo.

No, you will not have to cancel your Reader Store account. Your Reader Store account will automatically be terminated after Reader Store closes.
All pending pre-orders for eBooks expected to publish before March 20, 2014 will be fulfilled. However, we will cancel any pending pre-orders for eBooks expected to publish after March 20, 2014, and you will not be charged for these orders. Pre-orders will not transfer to Kobo. You will be able to submit pre-orders for eBooks at the Kobo Store.

Unless you choose to opt out of the transfer process, Reader Store will share your email address, the eBooks you purchased at Reader Store, as well as the amount of any credit in your account as of March 20, 2014. This will ensure that after you transfer to Kobo, you will have access to both your library of eBooks purchased at Reader Store as well as your credit balance.
