I don't know who was responsible for all the sudden toying around with faction in this game, whether it was Silius or someone else, but someone really needs to put the brakes on this before it gets out of hand.
Faction grinding is probably the most hated, nay despised!, mechanic in any MMO by many, many people. People only do it if the rewards are great enough for them to resign themselves to the hours of not having any fun in order to get the reward. There are better ways to do this!
FACTION IS THE DEVIL! Wake up every morning and say "Get thee behind me devil!"
  2. In a rush to head to work here, but I feel it necessary to chime in (I've been thinking this for about 2 months now):
I agree that the Celestine Ward faction armor/quests/etc. are a bit too, for lack of a better phrase, "strung out". I've been on these quests for many, many weeks now (since level 29--I'm now level 36). I'm somewhere in the range of 9,000 faction, but am still lacking in tomes and runes.
Each time I log on, I'm here forming a group or attempting to join one for VT/Thel and all of my playtime has been dedicated to this line since level 29 (minus a few leftover quests for the unicorn mount--which was an excellent quest). If no one is on, I'll start soloing my way through like a snail until I can summon in help. It truly feels like I'm making no progress. The lack of people has had me tanking and healing these groups for hours on end in hopes to win a rune or roll on a tome. I've got about 1/3 of the tomes I need at this point and even less of the runes.
I've tried sneaking around inside both dungeons to get a kickstart on the tomes but haven't had much luck.
I'd say something needs to be done so I don't spend an entire decade+ of my character's life in the same two dungeons towards the same goal.
..and, as an addition, the one armour piece that I've turned in so far has been the disciple's belt. I've run into a replacement of this piece almost a day after receiving it near level 33. I find this to be disappointing as I feel I put a lot of work into the quest. I'm hesitant to do the rest but I'm going to push through for the shruikens.
I do like the idea of doubling the faction gain for 4/5-dot mobs.
  3. farming the vt/thel stuff does get pretty annoying after a while. something vets have come to realize is that vt/thel is decent for the random named drops and exp but thats it. unless youre a dsc/mnk, there really is no reason to be grinding for the armor/faction at all.

if youre really hel bent on completing faction/armor i would suggest that you buy the tomes off the broker and look for named that spawn over land since they drop runes as well. that way you don't have to devote so much energy building a group just to fight your way into the dungeons.

otherwise move on. you can do DT, bounty hunters quest lines, and i think the urt stuff is late 20's early 30s now? point is don't senselessly grind one area when you have other viable choices.

I totally disagree about the Wardship armor, especially for tanks. Bounty Hunter armor is closer to Hunter's League than it is to Wardship. So is the new URT armor, which is level 18-28. All of those have less than 500 AC, for example, some closer to 400. Wardship is 600+. Wardship is another notch up the ladder from all these others. There are a few good pieces in Dargun's, (tank and cleric arms) but don't count on collecting a full set of armor from drops there very fast either.
For a tank, no other armor at the level range of Wardship gives actual Melee Mitigation stats like Wardship does. In fact, I wore the orange pieces of Wardship all the way until I replaced it with Swamp Armor just for that reason. While I am not saying that it isn't possible, I would not relish tanking a group through Heg runs in URT, HL, or BH armor, but I have done just that in Wardship armor. It is well worth the effort.
Maybe a few of the additional stats on Wardship armor could use a bit of a boost--many of the stats are +6, and could be bumped to +10 or so, but overall, Wardship is a cut above anything else you can get pre-lvl 40.
  5. i would concede the point on the bp, but remember that with the recent itemization revamp, there are a lot more viable options especially on the island of madness. the bps may not have the same ac as the wardship bp, but the attack ratings are substancially higher from what i've seen. and this requires no grinding at all. just fly to the chunk, do a quick /who and ask whoever is farming to /give you whatever you're looking for.
  6. ow come ON guys. this game is not about item stats alone. most groups lvl 30-40 are either in celestine ward or darguns's tomb. the new players probably don't give a **** about what armor has best stats. its not like item stats matter *that* much outside of a raid.

what matters is that celestine ward must be a zone where newcomers and vets should BOTH be willing to venture in.
newcomers should feel "rewarded" after hours of doing this zone. The topic is about making the experience from lvl 30 to 40 in wardship better.
