Developer Spotlight – Meet Silius!

  1. What do you like best about Vanguard?
I just love Vanguard It is a game that I spent a good chunk of my career on and when I think about the awesome classes we have, the beautiful world, the massive scale, the incredible looking creatures, an in depth crafting system, as well as diplomacy, it is hard to choose what I like best.

Please, re-itemize the race starting area to avoid every new player must go to IOD, at least before F2P launch.
This game is RP oriented, every player MUST have the same rewards when hitting level 10, even if he want to start a real Kura in Lomshir :p

No one must do IoD, how ever the charm is one good reason, having a similar item quest in all starter areas may not be a bad idea. The rest can be left intact, one levels so quick the IoD gear is replaced fast enough it is not the end of the world by any means.
  3. I don't remember where but I saw that dev's profile a long time ago. maybe from the time before when he was a dev for vg?
  4. Silius is now 0/2 for bug fixes that went well (0/3 if you count the 12 hour server downtime that introduced more lag). Here are some suggestions:
-Fix stuff that people have been asking for years to be fixed that affect gameplay and enjoyment FIRST.
-Announce what you are going to do in advance to get feedback.
-Enable the test server and have people test it there first.
-Do not nerf anything until you have fixed other bugs.
-Do not nerf or take away things instead of fixing the content that is broken and that item can be used to exploit.

Really Silius, what you did to the Heavy Gauntlets is unacceptable. I am sure your thoughts were that these items can be used to exploit Zodifin; Zodifin was updated years ago so this exploit would no longer work; Zodifin was reverted to his previous state (probably an error) so they would work again: instead of fixing Zodifin properly I am going to take away the ability on the gloves BRILLIANT!!!
And just to show how brilliant you were, instead of taking away the ability, you added some "haha they will laugh" clicky that was supposed to be a heal, but you did no QA testing at all and when the item was clicked the gloves went away and so did all the augments in them. Thankfully the game has the best GMs and they have been working hard getting people their augs back. There was nothing wrong with the clicky on the gloves and it would have been better to just fix the raid mob(s) that these could be used on to exploit (which were fixed years ago and you unfixed them).
It was not in the patch notes so it is unknown to the player base if you even intended to make the changes to some of the mobs in the first place. What you did to Shendu was also not wise. If he summons again, that is fine and no big deal and maybe a good thing to add a bit more of a challenge to the fight so the entire raid has to run at once. That was taken out a while ago I am guessing for the reason that people were getting killed by lag from the inferno. Now you added even more lag and reverted the mechanic back. That does not make the game more challenging or fun, it just makes it more frustrating to do everything correct in a raid encounter and have people die to the Infernos because of massive lag spikes.

Your strange tendencies to micromanage small defects that are mostly non-issues and then introducing greater problems are what a lot of the longtime players remember you for when you previously worked on VG. If people are doing an activity or encounter that is not the way you intended them to do it and it is not a blatant exploit on a major mob, but are still challenged and having fun, LEAVE IT ALONE.

i met silius at fan faire a few years back, even then he was out of touch with the players and resisted strongly talking about anything in the game but rather about long term plans that were vague and at best not thrilling. The O for record of successful patches that patched inconsequential things while breaking and nerfing others is a well documented history.
I second the motion that going forward highborne silius should step down off his pedestal and solicit actual player input before scheduling ill-fated patches. and having a NO AUG Replacement policy for GM's to deal with because you dont store the info in your database (how absurd is that) makes mistakes like the guantlets even more galling.
Time to suck it up and make nice with the players , after all, we are your only advertisement to draw in new players. and we are paying for that priviledge (so please, no fluff items as loyalty rewards when f2p goes live)

Ok so after some input by my bud Quert and some thought I will retract my statement and agree fully. Took some insight, but now I see the beauty in it. IoD was great as a trial, but yes having the starter areas propelry used would be the right call for F2P start.
  7. we're already more than familiar with salim 'nerf' grant. when are the spotlights coming up
  8. may i have your attention pls.. may i have your attention pls.. will the next dev to be on the spotlight pls.. stand up! pls.. stand up!!
