I've recently returned (about a month ago) after four years. Back in the day, I leveled various alts to 50 crafting and 50 harvesting in every discipline. I used to very much enjoy making my own bows, other weapons, and armor with mats I gathered myself. Since I returned I've made a couple new alts and naturally want to use my crafters to equip them as they level. But it seems some types of mats are so scarce as to be functionally nonexistent. A few I can list are Focusing [fill in the blank] of Physical Resistance; Focusing Powder or Shards of Renewal; Resonating [fill in the blank] of Striking. So with the exception of bows, just about every time I've tried to make weapons, e.g. the Initiate shortsword I wanted to make today, I am thwarted before I start because I can't loot or even buy the mats I want to use. Why are these materials so scarce? do they even drop any more? I have been harvesting and deconstructing for the entire month I've been back, so it's not like I'm not trying to get them myself even though they aren't on the Exchange.
they drop but are depletion bonus items, best way to get them are group harvests. depletion bonuses are much more plentiful in group harvests.
Yes, I know they are depletion bonuses, but I get those all the time, one or more in every two or three harvests, even when solo harvesting. Just not the specific ones that I mentioned above. Seems like in a month of harvesting all types of resources, just about every day, that I should have gotten some of those that I mentioned by now!
Well focusing are not at all tiers. But I agree they drop a little too scarcely, but they are much more common in 4 or 5 or 6 man harvest teams than 1 or 2. Striking dust is much much more common as a decon dust from weapons.
