ATI Display Driver Failure

  1. Video Card : Radeon HD 7850
Drivers : are the most updated ones from ATI
    OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Basically once in awhile when I minimize and maximize the game window ( i play in window mode) it causes my display driver to fail it doesnt crash the PC because the driver recovers. This does not happen in any other game I play Skyrim, rift, nba 2k12 etc.
  2. Vanguard keeps crashing display driver for me too. I can play for example Skyrim or now that I think about it pretty much any other game as much as I want without problems, but Vanguard keeps crashing it and finally stops reponding totally.
Computer itself does not crash as I just have to kill stalled Vanguard and everything else works perfectly without reboots or anything.
Setup I am using is following:
    Intel i7 3770
AMD Radeon HD7970 (Gigabyte Windforce version with very good cooling) + Catalyst 12.6
    16GB RAM
    ASUS Xonar DX soundcard
    Windows 7 SP1 64-bit
  3. I am starting to think that my driver crashes are related to drivers. And more specifically to Catalyst 12.6. I tested 12.7beta with same results.
Then I uninstalled Catalyst totally and after reboot installed Catalyst 12.4 It is noticeably slower than newer versions, but so far I have not had a single driver crash. I keep testing and post final results here later.
  4. Currently I run:
    I7-2600K 4.2OC on Asus Maximus V Gene
    16GB 2133 ram (4x4 Gskill)
ATI 7970 MSI LIghtning Cat 12.7 (Cat 12.6 previous)
    Asus Sound FX/III onboard sound
    I run in Eyefinity 5760x1080 3xASUS 24'x27'x24' Monitors

Currently I have not had any issue so far with Vanguard crashing, what I have had though is alot of missing textures. Now I admit I have not played as much with 12.7 and so far textures look good, but the worst was in NT and I have not gone back since upgrade to 12.7.
I also modded the ini to use shadwemodel 3.0 and environment to 256MB which may help.
I do not though go out to a window often in VG, in fact almost never, as I have an old laptop I look stuff up on if need be. You can diable VPU recover, this is known to be picky and cause issues.
  5. It isn't actually crashing the game. Windows 7 is able to recover after the fail and the game doesn't crash. It is just really annoying.
