Raid Lag

Discussion in 'Developer Roundtable' started by ARCHIVED-Silius, Aug 18, 2012.

  1. yesterday was an odd lag day for me. I kept at least one account logged on all day once the server was back up and experienced minimal lag on either of my machines. I still heard others experiencing lag and chunks still crashed in different places, but I didnt get red bar 9999ms ping until we raided zodafin last night. remarkably , lag was not a major factor in the shendu fight earlier. We still managed to kill zodafin but it was ugly and messy and with lag related deaths. So I am posting here because it was clearly raid lag and not a generalized issue. It started before we engaged. It happened at various times along the way.

Eh... lets see, did you forget, Tanvu crashing screwing up the civics?, Khal crashing screwing up the civics? TJ, screwing up the civics?...
  3. Chunks crashing where we get our civics is a pain in the butt for us. It bugs out all the civic buffs, making it tough to get in between events.
Wednesday, we were working on Shendu. We have encountered a new feature. =p Shendu would randomly reset after doing the diplo with him to start the event. He despawns and all the statues with him and reappears after about 10 secs (approx). The lag was horrible as well. We would get long periods of lag that would go for several seconds during the encounter.

That's a old "new" feature to vanguard, sigh see lots of that in vg now. I don't member ikiks (tear) fix for that but the way to avoid his despawn back in the day was to make sure your raid group is no more then 50m from him before starting the diplo. Only issue doing that is now you may have to deal with a random summon at the start and that may end up getting a sorc face punched but meh little random in such a heavy scripted event can be fun.
BTW do you have both bm epics now? Did they fix Notkosis of Chaos Tentacle Slash,Vellicate of Blood, and do the pets that the epic spawns still do 0 damage?
Hope that helps with shendu, enjoy vg's one and only ring mob.
  5. I'm not sure if anyone's pointed this out, but I figured I'd bring it up incase it's somehow similar and maybe give the devs a spark of how to fix it.
The raid lag spikes we're experiencing is very similar to the lag spikes after the server merges of Xeth and Seradon in 2010. A lot of people said that was due to the discoveries and other things getting updated to the website. But I'm not sure. And since we know that Telon's server was worked on in April (When all this lag started) that it could be something very similar.
Devs can you check what was done in 2010 to fix the lag and see if you could do the same thing now?
  6. Had a good 10 second lag spike for our group of 6 on pulling krassin. This may be directly related to the ring of fire animation that krassin puts up at the start.

    Feedback would be appreciated.
  8. Honestly, I hate to say but we all know this thread is useless. Before April, we all raided with very very minimal lag, a occassional spike here and there, but it was RARE. The comes along the long maintenance in April and Introduces LAG, which has been progressively getting worse.
I really don't know how many times we have to say it, how many times we have to tell you before you start to realize, its not the code, its not the d@&n clickies stacking, or anything else that is causing this horrible lag, ITS WHAT WAS DONE IN APRIL!!!!! Really, seriously the Very First post in this thread has links to give you time frames. Get your Networking Staff, go back over the logs of what they did and have them go over every single step to see what they broke, or what they plugged in backwards, until then no amounts of tweaking the code, nerfing players clickies, etc is going to matter!
  9. It feels like 2+ years ago when they all left VG. But this time they left with so much lag in the game... And nothing to tell the paying/playing customers about whats wrong with VG.. Shame shame shame shame...
  10. it is truly a shame, this is silius' thread, not a player thread. he and brad have both come and stood in chunk while we raided a couple of weeks back, and then poof. they are gone from game, forums, and the only sign they still exist is a failed patch where the two main features were broken but NO mention of work on lag or crashes. Isnt it time for Silius to at least respond in the thread he started with an update?
  11. I figured I would post a few noted that seem to have missed this thread in my quick skim.
The old raid lag is still there and will remain to be there for folks without the right computer setup. (read ssd/memory + high cpu speed) For the most part, this lag is not a problem, and can be dealt with by the people that experience it. This is not the 'Raid Lag' that has been experienced recently.
The new raid lag works much differently than the old stuff.
First, the new raid lag does not seem to have an affect on people who are not in a raid group, even if they are standing in/with the raid.
Secondly, the new raid lag affects everyone in raid as well as the raid mob equally. While no one in raid can use abilities and the mob does seem to stop doing damage, all timers involved with buffs and mob abilities seem to continue counting.
Whatever caused this new style of lag began when the servers came back up after the 24 hour mantenance on April 23rd. It has been an issue since then, the game has been generaly more laggy overall since then, and the new client builds seem to be making the game even more unstable eg. chunks are constantly crashing.
  12. Hey guys, sorry I have not been posting as frequently as before but things have been pretty busy professionally and personally, and of all the stuff I do throughout the day, forum posting sometimes gets thrown to the wayside. As far as lag goes yes we are actively investigating it and have been deploying fixes as we get them resolved. As Hobart has already mentioned we have found a resolution for a major crash related to crafting and are actively looking into the lag.
Thank you again for the information in this thread. We will continue to monitor it and try to post when there is an update.
  13. Thanks for the update, and for the crash fix. I presume you still don't really know what's causing the lag issue, though?
  14. Silius, 5 months on the lag now. You need to get fires lit under some butts right now! This is sooooo stupid
  15. Here is some footage showcasing some raid lag we encountered yesterday. Hopefully it can help.
Make sure to put on 1080p fullscreen so you get the full laggy goodness.

PS. No cracks about my UI...I know its a cluster, but thats how I like it
  16. Thats some pretty nice video editing Brohn, nice video. It really shows how bad it can get, you can hear Naghite during Core processor saying 11, 12. That was one severe spike, even for me standing outside the raid right there. Sorry for the son of a "bleep"

Thanks Brohn this is awesome. I think we are a few steps closer to resolving this but I will not know for sure until later.

Pfffff You didn't white or black screen once! Slacker! Seriously, these are good examples, but I am getting much worse in some cases. Very good examples though. On Theridon engage I get a full black screen for like 15 seconds. sick Cool that you sniffing out a fix. Praying something goes live soon.

Well what have u done for the last 5 months by now? And what makes this bug so hard to resolve especially with the patchday being known? Do you intend to ever get this fixed at all?
