Treasure hunting/shipwreck scavenging suggestion for new content

  1. This is a suggestion to add treasure hunting or you can call it shipwreck scavenging to Vanguard as new content and it should be fairly easy to code. The idea is to combine several needed members of the the class spheres to make it a success.

    1) A high level diplomat (suggestion is 40+) conducts a parley with a very small chance to get a treasure map or is commissioned to explore a potential shipwreck site. The item needs to be tradeable/sellable as this can be a cash box for up and coming diplomats.
2)Diplomat either sells/trades this commission/treasure map to a potential buyer that will need a certain group of people to complete the quest.
    A) if shipwreck, player takes the document and "opens" it to reveal a location and a recipe for a blacksmith compass specific to this shipwreck. He must then gather a high level fisherman (must be balanced for skill) to join him on a T4 or T5 caravel or galleon to tread the deep waters using the blacksmith created compass with 1 use to find the shipwreck, this will also promote boat sells by carpenters. In addition, boats will need to be fitted with fishing net rigs created by outfitters and artificers to be used by the fisherman since he is NOT actually looking to catch fish on this voyage with a rod. Through the use of the compass the shipwreck is located and the fisherman fishes UP the items left by the shipwreck which will include at the end a TREASURE CHEST that must be opened by blacksmith created keys. The chest will signify the END of the quest.
B)if land treasure map, player takes the document and "opens" it to reveal a location and a recipe for a blacksmith compass specific to the treasure map. He must then gather a high level harvester of both stone(quarrying) and metal (mining). Once the spot has been located using the compass the miner and stonemason dig up the items which include at the end, the treasure chest and using a blacksmith made key opens it to signal the end of the quest.
In order to give fishing a further boost and profit potential, they can FISH up these maps/lost commission shipwrecks as well at a very small chance of success.
Finally, sea monsters and even raid encounters could be incorporated into these treasure seeking tasks to balance risk versus reward. Some quests could be for a group or could be RAID strength.
These are the kinds of things I would LOVE to see in Vanguard. Content, content, content :)
  2. This does remind me of things spoken of when VG was in beta. I think they mentioned sea based raids and treasure hunting.
The entire ocean used to be totally open (is it still?) where you could sail from Thestra to Qalia etc.... thats a ton of space to use for things like this.
  3. I'm not sure if they are open or not..Adding content like this gives more variety of things to do in Vanguard. So many other games miss the boat with content. And although Vanguard has a TON of it, there is always room for more. New content is what will keep me playing the game. It's not like i spent days coming up with this suggestion. This seems like something that could really draw some interest from everyone.
  4. When they have time to work on diplomacy....
Expanding on this idea further... have more encounters in the taverns with the barkeep and with patrons. I'd like to see a random patron appear in the bars that offers different quests or random items. As it currently is, the parleys with the barkeeps give the same story over and over. Maybe it doesn't have to be lore of the game but about a sunken ship or bandits raiding or rescuing someone. Then possibly have a quest to go with it. (and don't have the random patron go poof or walk away if in the middle of a parley! )
I'm a fan of the Sid Meier's Pirates! game that came out several years ago (Played it when it first came out on the C64 even) You could purchase parts of a treasure map and then you'd still have to determine where the location was. It would be cool to get parts of a treasure map from the tender or random patrons. Once you can determine where the treasure is then go get it. It could be from a sunken ship or on land, either way would work.
Diplomacy could really be expanded on by having random patrons, more random quests, storylines etc...
Sea monsters! I always felt VG was lacking in sea creatures. You're absolutely right, there is so much water and hardly anything in it. 'Someday' let's get a 'Kedge Keep' (EQ) type zone done Vanguard style!
I find card games irl to be quite boring, but I enjoy diplomacy, so I'd like to see this area really grown in the future.

I like this idea Sullo. One area I can think of, so much can be played upon the trouble with the trade routes in Qalia to work with your idea. Rescuing the Sultan's daughter or one of his many wives, etc. Either finding treasure, recovering lost treasure and reaping the rewards. A lot of possiblities there..........
