It is so sad to see SOE do this a SECOND time.
I was really excited when I got a push notification from the EQ Worlds app that there is a discount on The EQ2 expansion if you have SOE All Access. I have friends that play EQ2 and I played Vanguard beta and the 1st six months of launch and I LOVED Vanguard Beta so was excited to come possibly come back and see what's new. Seeing this news however that they are closing down yet another game they have ruined has helped me decide not to sign up for All Access, not to go back to EQ2, and not to buy the new expansion for EQ2. I am contemplating wether or not I will even be a part of EQN at this point because I'm not sure I can trust SOE not to ruin it. I like the developer team from EQNL livecast and think there is potential for EQN but I don't trust whomever is making decisions with the business. They care nothing for their customers and ONLY about money and someday they will learn you need customers to be successful.

Being such a huge fan of EQ2 and EQ1 I didn't listen when people said SOE would ruin Vanguard after they took over from Sigil. However, I was clearly proved wrong early in the launch of the game when the Dev's suddenly killed each thing I loved about the game every time a new patch would come we'd lose a unique and exciting part of the game. So it didn't take long before SOE shewed me away from the game and on to other things. I'm glad I didn't invest in this game and got out quick when I could.

For those of you who loved the original EQ1 and Vanguards early days and like a more hardcore play style you should check out an MMORPG coming soon called Archage. I'm sure posting links is probably against TOS so you guys can just Google it.

Oh man, I am so upset right now. After discovering this game recently and playing it some, for the first time in YEARS I got the feeling that I was playing something epic. Huge zones, amazing graphics, beautiful music, tons and tons of choices for character customization and playstyle.. then I see this post.

Very disappointed and wish there was something that could be done to keep this game alive.

What I fail to understand is why a company like Sony would not look at games like Vanguard as an opportunity to create something that would run for 100+ years. Like the game of chess, MMO's are to console gaming what chess is to short lived games that people sometimes make up, but die out. Really it is all dependant upon how one looks at the notion of having regular subscribers. The real problem is not screwing something up that works, that draws people. And along those lines creating something that can be remodeled and upgraded. Makes me wonder what the longest running MUD is? I have played a few a bit over the years, but never payed that much attention such that I would really know.

This is especially true now that computer graphics have basically reached the point of being as good as they can really ever get. You can't get better then real life. Some resolutions now I believe are getting to where they are better then the human eye can even see. Objects that are supposed to be round are no longer odd shapes, but truly lifelike.

To look at Vanguard, which I haven't played recently, but planned to again, it has always looked like a half built amusement park. Sony in all their incompetence then seems to wonder why it does not receive the draw, when they fail to advertise it, fail to complete it, fail to even really fix it. I guess this is what happens when you treat such properties as Vanguard as if it is a console, short lived game.

You can tear down what you build and start over, but underlying such actions lies problems that are responsible for all the issues in the first place. The process itself of tearing down and rebuilding over and over is liable to anger quite a few people. It reaches a point where such behavior is essentially running in circles. Behavior such as declaring you have great customer service, right to the faces of disgruntled customers. One might even call such behavior, insane.

My personal experience of WoW. I will never forget trying it out for a couple weeks and listening to a bunch of crazy individuals discussing cow menstruation in general chat for something like two hours. I had a number of really bad experiences with it. WoW as a game attracts some very wretched immature individuals. What is it about a cartoony atmosphere and other aspects of WoW that does this? Is this really what SOE wants to emulate? Basically they want to create some sort of ***** house like Blizzard has done? Some of the wretches attracted to WoW, are really shocking. Or do you want to create something truly better? I guess it comes down to what do you want to create? Something that draws the masses like a **** MMO might, or something more refined that would equate to a fine restaurant. In other words, do you want to build a restaurant, or something that might belong in a red light district? You had something with Vanguard and honestly have failed it. Seems more like you have employees that need to be fired, rather then products that are flops.

I know players were hopeful that SOE would somehow "change their mind", but a big company like this does not make announcements of this magnitude unless they are serious. I never doubted their resolve.

Yaviey is correct. They (SOE) do not allow such things nor even the discussion of such things... that does not mean they are not happening. There is always hope, for the resourceful seeker.

What class of company is soe?
Do soe think on players or just in money?
Not all you do in the life is to make business

is it so hard to understand that the pile of dog crap known as vg code isn't 100% owned by soe? i hate soe as much as the next vg player but how are they going to open up a game they themsleves pay royalties on?

the ship has sailed on helping this game. if you want to do something about vg, go help the emulator people.

The question is: is just one last month enough to gather all needed info to run emuserver? I am afraid, it is not..:-/

Correct they can't give out the source but what they could do if they wanted to is give out the database information kinda like how they do with EQ2 and PS2. Now i doubt they would go to all the trouble to make it fancy like the current API it would be something simple like a DB export.

Good thing they have been at it longer then a month.

While I am sad to see Vangard fall, given that this is sony it was going to happen, just like SWG. All of us left still playing, this can go play Elder Scrolls Online at least, it is the same (mostly) with updated graphics

My daughter was born when I started playing Vanguard in Beta. I've leveled multiple characters and spheres to level 55, played on-and-off while it was a subscription and free-to-play. My (now) 8-year old daughter and I started playing right before the announcement. We recently finished Khegor's End and have been having fun in the Hive of Zihurr.

During the last month of play, we'll be logging in each day and dancing around in random capitals to say good bye. She'll be playing her "sneaky little thief" while I'll be playing my first character ever made -- Sadrilil (which I never leveled to 55).

I discovred this game 1 year ago (I'm late :() , so please let me play more ! (I don't need any update/support, All I need is a running server :)I think that costs you nothing).

I just wish I could recover my station cash :( I hate this company, all their other games, and I'm sure they will soon go bankrupt and take all my hard earned money.

Admittedly I hadn't played in quite a while, but was considering playing again (because of the current games out being such junk)
when I noticed this post. It's very sad, because I know from playing the game in the past, how much art and hard work went into this game.
I had, at the time I played it, had more fun than I ever had in WOW.
It's too bad that they couldn't just perform another server merger and cut back on the amount of servers being used.

I also understand you guys made a decision based on some things just not being able to be fixed. The answer to that is simple.
VANGUARD - SAGA OF HEROES II
Updated graphics, with new updated engine (with everything fixed or fixable at time of release lol)

And don't take crap from Blizzard. This game sorta got hosed when it was initially released because Blizzard timed the release
of one of their expansions at the same time and same day I believe that this game originally came out.

If you guys do make a new VANGUARD, I'm sure most players and new will return. I know I will. Until next time, cya you out there.

Just want to reply with a broken heart, of the great memories this game gave me from launch , up till I cancelled my sub 4 and half years later. To the great friends and guildmates from original guild of Radiance, till we merged with Sacred Haven. Too many things to list here, just wanted to say something.....

    You WILL be missed, Telon.

Honestly this is just Sony making another bad decision... They never understood how to not screw up the progression of their games except for this one. It's the only game that remained a reasonable level limit and they shut it down.. Some things needs to be remembered in this new age of mmo generation. Most new age mmos are tanking bad and not speaking out to the true audience of mmo players who prefer the strategy old style feel of a mmo rather than something that feels more like a console game. In this time I think keeping this game around to catch the people searching for something old but new and for all the people who will revert back to this style mmo because I believe that's all that will happen in the mmo world. EQ2 is honestly a great game but unlike vanguard it progressed way too far making the majority of the game redundant. When will they learn?
