  1. Old guitarists I like Jimmy Hendrix and Page.
  2. Changing it up totally, here's one of my favorite solo guitar pieces of all time:

    Another great player, Albert Lee:

Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins are no slouches either, (if you like Mark Knopfler, check out his album with Chet Atkins):

Warren Haynes is probably my favorite guitar player ever, throw in Derek Trucks and it's hard to beat:

  3. Can't believe no one has mentioned the greatest guitarist ever who couldn't even read music..SRV. Stevie Ray Vaughn.
He had the most difficult rifts and runs of anyone because it was simply what he felt, he couldn't read or write music. It was all from ear or just feeling.

Best Voodoo rendition..Sorry Jimmy. You have to watch the whole song, especially the part at 58:00.

While I love SRV, I can't agree that the fact that he couldn't read or write music makes him the best. There are A LOT of excellent musicians out there who don't read or write music.

For example, Doc Watson (RIP) was blind from a very young age. He learned to play guitar without ever seeing one, and he is one of the best guitarist of all time.

Rory Hoffman is another blind guitar player. I doubt he can read music either :p.

Most music is, at some level, played by ear and feeling.
