Old new player thinking of returning

  1. Hi all!
A number of years ago I found Vanguard on the shelves cheap and decided to pick it up. Admittedly my memory is vague at best of those years but I only stuck around for a couple/few weeks. My life was fairly hectic back then so I guess is probably the main reason why I didn't play for long but I do remember how helpful and friendly the community was. Many things have changed since then but I see Vanguard is still alive and it seems with F2P, doing better than ever!

Like many others, I've played many MMOs and to be honest nothing has ever held my attention like Everquest Classic . I sunk so many hours into that game, I yearn for that feeling again of somewhere new and fresh. Rift, Guild wars 2, and the raft of other MMOs fail to hold my interest for any period longer than a month. For the past couple of weeks, after giving Guild Wars 2 the boot, I've found myself searching the net for something. I've thought about going back to Project 1999 but to be honest that isn't the EQ I remember. I tried EQ2 a couple of years ago but that wasn't it either. Then, the other day, I noticed Vanguard up on Steam... and I thought to myself... maybe this time! So here I am :)

    I'm yet to install the game on my computer but I imagine the disc + updates should still work fine (I'm hoping not too many updates, nearing my cap for the month). Who knows what happened to my characters, or even what they were, because to be honest, everything seems like a blur. I remember trying my hardest to get my head around Vanguard and just ending up confused (probably playing a Bard didn't help either). Anyway, I'll likely re-roll and get my head around everything once again. I do have a couple of questions that I'm hoping you helpful people will answer (even though they've probably been asked a thousand times over);
    - what is the population like, and more specific to me, at off-peak US times since I'm an Australian
    - any other Aussies out there? :)
    - is this game solo friend or more group based, and if the latter, are people willing to group up (nothing worse than playing a 'single player MMO' ;))
    - any class recommendations for someone starting out fresh?
    - and lastly, any other advice?

    Thanks in advance all :)
  2. Hello,

Welcome to VG. I would highly recommend giving it another try. It is going to be worth it.
I only started playing VG about 6-8 weeks ago and I am having a blasthere.

To answer your questions...or at least some of them
The population seems to be ok to me on Telon. There are always people around. I am EU based but I can fiond people to group with even in the mornings on a weekday. It is of course a bit easier later but as I said with a little effort you can find a group most of the times.

The game can be played solo and grouped as well though it really shines when you are grouped. Loads of interesting dungeons with a lot of quests around. On the other hand, you will find just as many solo quests as well if you dont feel like grouping or cant find a group at a given time.

Class. Play whatever youd like to. The classes are all fine and fun. tanks and healers are always needed though. but really, every class is fine.

The first levels might be a bit boring but give it siome time and believe me it will get much better at around lvl12 and then it will only get better and better.

    Hopefully, I could help.
  3. Can't say it a whole lot better than Brand did. But WELCOME! I hope you thouroughly enjoy your time here. If you are looking to simply get a good grip on game machanichs i would probably suggets starting off with a more simple class at lower lvls like a cleric, shaman, or paladin. But thats just me. You may enjoy the complexity of one of the other classes right off the bat. But either way, have fun and relax. Don't rush it. Ask tons of stupid questions in chat. And ask for groups when you need them. You'll love it.
  4. we have enough aussies already thanks.. they keep showing up at our raids and hosting stuff on their own. shameless .
