Vanguard Audio Inject released (5.1,6.1,7.1 sound in software)

  1. F2P Update: As of this moment, I'm unable to get this working with the f2p update, I've installed the game and tried this from the start as would anyone else and it no longer seems to work, I get no audio devices to choose from. I've poked around a little and I'm not sure what the issue is. If anyone still has this working please let me know in this thread, I'd like to see whats not working for me and anyone else trying to use it fresh.

    From the README

    "What is it?
    -----------
VgInject uses a batch file (this method has been tossed around the forums before, thanks to those who posted it) to "inject" more recently updated vorbis and openal .dll files for the sound processing subsystem in Vanguard. The sound .dll files Vanguard uses by default are woefully out-dated and are missing several years of optimizations and improvements that the new .dll files include.I've experienced no issues using the newer .dll files.
Additionally, it adds support for 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 surround sound support purely via software. It also features improved Quad sound support.

Version 1.5 released. A maintance fix for an incorrect included file.

    Vginject 1.3
Added two additional OpenAL sound devices,"DirectSound Default" and "WaveOut Default".

DirectSound Default is an OpenAL fork known as "OpenAL Soft" that is essentially the same thing as an EAX capable hardware card only running in software. In a nutshell, it's an improved and better software audio option and should be used in place of "Generic Software". This option will now appear in your "Audio Device" drop down list. You can either re-start the game to enable the new device or unclick and reclick "Enable Audio" to reboot the sound engine in-game.
Waveout Default is an oddball audio option that should probably be ignored unless you like having sound out of one speaker.
No Ouput is the same thing as disabling sound entirely.
Removed Extras that were not audio related, it's just too much information. VgInject is now for updating and adding audio only options to Vanguard.
Cleaned out the .bat file and properly commented on what steps it's taking.

In addition, 1.3 includes all the previous openal, ogg and vorbis updates that the game as been lacking for the last 4 years or so. It a nutshell, the point was to update the audio rendering system vanguard uses to something more modern and improved.
BE SURE to read the README for instructions before just running the .bat file.
  2. Putting out version 1.4 today. It adds several pre-sets that adds the following:
    5.1 Surround Sound
    6.1 Surround Sound
    7.1 Surround Sound
    Improved Quad Sound
This all happens in software so it's a better alternative to the "Generic Software" option Vanguard ships with and gives you more options without having to use hardware, if that's your thing.
NOTE: 32 Bit Vista users have reported an error when trying to use this. I tested it on win 7 and win 8 64 bit, but I'll think on this.
  3. Awesome will have to check this out.

Please do, only using it on one system makes it's hard to judge how things are working ;)
  5. been using my own mod of version 1, definatly didnt break anything :p not sure if it added any audio quality or such in that version. ill have a go 1.4 after i adjust it to increase cache again.
  6. Yeah, the v1ish ones you'd be hard pressed to noticed anything your ear could notice. It was mainly for proof of concept, but, it should have helped things be more efficient. The latest ones does have things you'll notice, mainly 1.5,1.6,1.7 in software which is lacking from the generic software driver. Also, I no longer get BSOD using my X-FI card in hardware mode, so something might have fixed that. I'm not sure about x-fi users with XRAM, I'd need someone to test that as an xram extension may be already in the openal soft functionality.
  7. Welp, my sub is up a day or so and I don't plan on re-subbing for now, so I won't be able to comment/etc on this thread. I had hoped Vanguard was going to make a f2p announcement this month but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Alas, there are not enough players or much interest in the game as a $15 a month thing. Hope the audio stuff works and helps out anyone looking for a better software audio solution. It was a neat little project.

  8. Well, that was a short break
If anyone has had success or failure with this getting 5.1-7.1 sound working in software, let me know here!

Edit: Corrected folder misname. Folder is now "VgInject" instead of "VgInject4.1". The .bat file should run now without you have to rename the folder.
  9. This does not work for me with my system, Vanguard refuses to launch, splash comes up and then it shuts down no error. How ever works fine if I do not run the batch file.

Hmmmmm, odd. If you have the time and knowledge, open a dos console and run the /bat file from there, that way any errors it throws will be displayed because the dos window will stay open. What os?
Also, did you make sure the path's in the /bat file are the same one your system uses? Right click on the bat file and select open with>notepad. I bet that's the problem.
  11. Thank you so much for this, for now my BSOD's seems to be gone (let's hope it's just not a fluke!)
Curious though, why did you remove the SMAA, font and sysconfig.ini edits that were in 1.2? I edited them back in but wondering if there was a specific reason for it, or if you just decided to keep them seperate.

Glad it works. As for removing the other stuff, I decided to split it off the audio stuff, I was afraid it was too confusing for people and wanted to keep the audio fixes simple. If there's demand for it, I can easily add it back. I've also split off another version thats uses SMAA and ENB instead of FXAA and I use the newer version because ENB allows awesome control over darkness levels for day/night.
  13. Version 1.5 released. A maintance fix for an incorrect inluded file. You should update any previous version to this one. Link in first post.

  16. I cant get this to work, Anyone able to get this going?

It no longers works with the f2p version for some reason. I have no plans to spend time hunting down the problem to be honest.
  18. The version that I have still gives me the option for DirectSound...it is 1.4 acording to the Changelog...around the time that I released my launcher (no longer works as released, haven't bothered to update it yet - busy looking for a job IRL :/ ).

No idea if it is actually doing anything, as I can't test it atm, just patched/launched the game with the included batch file and it shows up. Hope that bit of info helps!
