Question on caster stats.

  1. Hey all,

Returning to the game after long absence and trying out some caster classes. I'm curious though if there are any sites/info on stats, stat weighting etc. I know int is good, but I saw an item with spell focus dmg on the auction house. Is this more desirable than int?

Are caster weapons (sorc/psi) basically stat sticks? I assume the dps of the weapon is only used for melee. Should I worry about the useable effect the weapon has? Staves are 1 hander/focus similar enough to not worry about which way I go?

    Thanks all for the help!

i play a sorc, so my responses will align accordingly. There is very little reason for a sorc to be hitting a mob (melee range) so focus items are the hand held item of choice. There are a wide range of stats available on both crafted and quested gear. Spell Damage Focus SDF is relatively easy to go over cap, so you may want to look for other stats or effects.
I am not aware of any site that really tells you much about class stats, but early on you want INT. Later in game you will find that INT is on almost every piece of caster gear. I actually respecked my sorc for INT, CON, and WIS (con not top because even at max it is still lower than INT) it makes for a more survivable sorc and HP buffs look at CON.
Anyway, thats my thoughts on the subject
  3. what exactly does SDF do? Is it like the Spell power stat in other games? Is it a direct dmg boost? From what I have seen, it seems melee /ranger types can get big boosts to dps by upgrading weapon as this figures in most the attacks dps calculations directly. 400% weapon dmg etc..

Casters though seem more stat driven, so it is kind of the whole package, a great weapon while nice isn't quite the obvious boost to the melee type classes?
While looking at the various categories of stats/info (crit chance and all that) I noticed my Psi has a whopping .4% dps boost :). This seems to be much less a factor than I had with my ranger even at that lvl.
  4. int effects damage, wis helps you crit more and increases your mana pool, and spell damage focus helps boost your damage.
it is realitivly easy to get sdf capped at 50+ just using crafted foci or a few crafted pieces of armour and regular drops from magi hold. as for stats int seems to be alot easier to cap than wisdom so i usually aug and spec wisdom on my casters.
  5. So if SDF and Int are easy to cap what is the point of raiding after you get spell upgrades?

  7. Thanks so is the endgame kind of like EQ where the + stats a race gets is irrelevant as you can easily max what you want with gear? It's all about the racial then?

Some races will cap you in a needed stat, some won't, but this is only at end game with good gear. Top end players may be capped in one or two stats. I chose a varanjar shaman and am still quite a bit undercap for vitality, my main healing stat.

    I disagree with this.
Early on you want as much SDF as you can find because of the direct boost and gives you and the fact that is quite hard to go over cap at a low level. Only when you have SDF at cap for your level should you primarily focus on adding INT, but make sure you keep adding more SDF as you level.
As far as weapons go, i always just go with the ones with the best overall stats on them whether they be a rod, staff, focus or whatever. Type is usually irrelevant.
