Sysconfig ini tweaks still work?

    In the old days of the game, there was some buzz about tweaking the values found in the sysconfig.ini file. I wonder if this is still valid or has been made obsolete in the years the game has been out.

    Such as:

    [Engine.GameEngine]
    CacheSizeMegs=32

    I was told that setting this to 128 or 256 makes a difference but don't want to make changes if it will cause problems?

    Any other secret tweaks in getting the best frame rate in the game?

    It will not cause problems as long as you stay within a safe margin.

    256 is high enough to be a good upgrade without causing any issues whatsoever.

    It would be nice if this was raised in the default file to 256. You used to be able to raise it in your files then it started to get overwritten each patch. Then some started replacing it after the patcher ran. Now it is replaced by the patcher again when you launch the game. This one change will make a hugh difference for the whole player-base.

    Agreed Micstruth, it would indeed be nice to have it set by default.

    I however do not get mine replaced again by the LaunchPad when I launch the game.
    As long as I wait for the LaunchPad to complete its check and replace it afterwards, the modification remains.

    This is working out great for me. I have made two batch files, each for my accounts and run them right before I hit the PLAY button. It is a miracle on how much faster things load and the game runs.

    For those looking to try this, go to: http://www.thetelonproject.com/sysconfig-ini

    The only problem I had was my Windows did not want to actually run the bat file until I turned on "show known extensions" and changed the txt to a bat. Also a bit tricky from the read me above to get the exact locations of the files to copy and replace. Some may need some help with that.

    Essentially you are copying a sysconfig file that has the 256 megs with the one that is in the bin directory. If you change it in the original location, it is reset each time you run Vanguard.

    If you can't figure it out, simply create a shortcut on your desktop of the ini file in the Vanguard bin directory and change it manually each time after you double click on the Vanguard icon but before hitting the START button.
