Theun, I think that was their intention and I agree with you this system can work fairly well, but gear needs tweaking, a lot of tweaking. For casters it's not too bad but high end casters may lose stats under the new system, at least compared with some pieces (a fully augmented Shendu Robe for example), but if SOE provides with a way to add defiance to old pieces by using a augmentation that uses an etherence slot to provide a defiance slot it will not be an issue since players will be able to keep their pieces until they find a more suitable set of augmentations or a base item with more slots or whatever they do to address that.

We really hope that a lot of players start experimenting outside of the cookie cutter molds that gear can put them in. Some people will crunch numbers and come up with a perfect build but I hope that many will experiment and find what works for their particular play style. It will hopefully also allow some of the classes with unique gear requirements like Clerics wanting to heal with heavy armor not feel like they are being forgotten about.

On the note of health I just created the HP Enrichments and hopefully that will help out with some people misgivings.

New items will not always be empty but the majority of them will be.
Defiance will be obtained though augments.
Revamped raids will have loot similar to what originally dropped but tweaked in power to match its current progression. Equipped Effect's or Activated Abilities from the old items will most likely be removed and Special Augments will drop with them instead.
Gear progression can go forward by either adding more slots to a piece or adding a new tier of Core/Defiance Augments.

As for how long it will take to get augments the idea is that the Minor's are trivial to get. You will probably never see someone walking around without all of the gear having at least Minors in it. Normals will take a small investment and will probably be the bulk majority of what people are walking around in until they have a few bosses on farm. Majors will take a decent amount of time to get as a whole but small enough that if you want them you'll be able to log in for a play session and feel like your making progress with getting majors. Majors will be obtained through raiding as well as doing some group content for those that want to grind for them faster.

Can you elaborate more than that and enlight us please ? This can lead in a few direction so tell us more to avoid misunderstanding .
    Thank you

I think that he means that the new version of the item won’t have an EE, instead it will have an special slot and the same mob will drop an augmentation with that effect.

Let's say that they upgrade Varking, and the upgraded version drops an upgraded version of Varking's Bulwark, the item will be stronger than the current version but it won’t have an EE, instead an EE it will have a special augmentation slot. Varking loot would also include an augmentation that provides “Absolute Retribution”… In short, the new version of Varking would drop upgraded versions of its current loot and some augmentations, probably as many augmentations as items with EEs on Varking’s loot table, according to Xanadu it would be 4 augmentations (“Painful Recovery”, “Silent Suffering”, “Absolute Retribution” and “Torsheim’s Touch”)…. At least that’s what I understand from Wigin’s post.

But yes, Wigin should elaborate more, his post can also be interpreted like they are planning to change current items.

Thanks for looking for a solution for the hp issues wigin, however I think you are halfway there. Unless you make a separate slot for for hp and energy on all items I think its going to be very hard to match hp values we receive from a fully auged pota + set.

My guild mate and I already interpreted wigins post differently, some clarification would be nice yes :D

What about the Pota set bonus? Some classes dont really care other really do. Monks Pota 5 piece bonus is what makes the difference between a monk or a high dps monk. How will the Imbueds be implemented in our gear?

    Regenerations?
    Endurance?
    Energy?

Is it possible that instead of the minor-normal-major system you've developed that you'll allow for something like this?
Major = Normal socketed with a Minor
Normal = Minor socketed with a Minor
    Minor = Minor

If I wish to put HP, CON, HP Regen, STR and DEX, I'll be able to do it? I know that's a bit more coding but it would flesh this system out considerably.

Book of Morfare was mentioned at the time that they announced Special Augments. It's not interpreted. He announced it could/would happen.

The question that should be asked is why? Why convert an old clickie to a special augment and use one of the less than twenty special augment slots afforded to us via CoW? What's my benefit to do so or what are they changing that makes it a perceived benefit?
  10. Wigin Developer

That is basically how it would work. Allows you to get the item and the EE but if you want to mix and match it will let you. We will also review the Equipped Effect or Activated ability to make sure it works as intended. I have mentioned in the past but anything placed in a Special slot will get its own unique timer for any activated ability.
  11. Wigin Developer

They will all get their own unique timer when converted to a special augment. However they will not be forcefully changed you will take your Book of Morfare change it into a Special Augment if you choose to and then use it from there.
  12. Wigin Developer

We will eventually have a way for people to convert old set bonus's into new Special Augments who choose to do so.

Can we get a detailed explanation of Special Augmentations?
  14. Lavyndar Well-Known Member

I realise you are just using it as an example, but I don't think anybody at all will do that for the Book of Morfare.

Right now it is an item clicky that causes an undead mob to take more damage from anybody that hits it. If you make it a gear item, then that totally wastes a special augment slot on something that is only useful on a very small percentage of mobs. The only time anyone would put the morfare clicky in a special slot is if they had a spare slot and had literally no other aug to put in it.

Edit: I am making assumptions about where you're going with special augments, but I just wanted to point out that some things are best left as item clickies. The oft-mentioned Book of Morefare being one of them.

Can you please confirm what you mean by "eventually" ? Do you mean on the first push of CoW to live, or do you mean in a much later content push that perhaps involves later wings?

This is an important distinction because for some classes the 5 piece bonus is critical. Forcing those classes to give it up while we wait for an indeterminate amount of time for future content is not going to go down well.

several references have been made to changes to "current" that have sent ripples through the community. Can we please get a clear answer on whether existing augs, mobs, EE's are being changed? or only newly acquired augs and some revamped mobs as OPTIONS not replacements? In the example above, Varking was mentioned, So please be specific , is the old Varking and his loot table disappearing or getting a spawnable cousin with the new stuff?

Just a reminder, don't give us encounters that are bugged to hell and we'll forgive your terrible decisions regarding the new gear path.

how will they know if the encounters are bugged when the playerbase makes up 99.9% of vg's qc?
  18. Gresteh Active Member

That's a really good question... I too want an answer for this. From previous dev posts I understand that their original plan was to use the new mentoring system for that, I’m too lazy to dig old threads for specific quotes, but I remember mentions to mentor stones close to overland targets for this purpose therefore players would be able to fight both options or better said, both versions would be the same and the difference would lay in that players would be affected by ferocity or by a non counterable equivalent… but they may have changed their idea about this due to the overwhelming negative reaction towards the revamp of the mentoring system.

And now that I think about it… that may be the key for that mentoring revamp, mentoring stones would set the player to the appropriate lvl using current system and it would cause players to be affected by some sort of ferocity-like effect to reduce high end gear effectivity, if so, revamping mentoring would be easy to implement... players would use the current system to get scaled down and gear effectiveness would be reduced by a percentage that would depend on the selected difficulty... For example easy would be no reduction and hard would be a 50% power reduction, rewards would be scaled to that “difficulty”.

I also would like to know how it will affect items like The Frozen Core Shield that has EE but no Augment slots. And would this change affect only new items that droped after the change or items that droped before the change too? And if items that droped before the change will be affected and lose the EE, will the EE be replaced automaticaly by an augment with that EE or will it be completely lost?
  20. Gresteh Active Member

I don't think that item will be affected, it’s not a dropped item, but if SOE decides to revamp APW they may decide to add an upgraded version of that item to one of the mobs there… I doubt it will be the case unless the “revamp” is not really a revamp but a way of applying mentoring, if that’s the case then it would be easy to revamp most mobs, you would click a mentor stone that would change your lvl to 50(or whatever lvl they choose) and it would use a ferocity-like effect to reduce your effectiveness… but of course I’m speculating now, that may or may not be the route they choose, I think that will be the route due to certain comments they have done about this but since they haven’t given any solid information about this is just pure speculation.
